November 29, 2011 at 1:59 am #212357Sweet ride, good to catch up with some old friends and meet some new ones.
Had a few drinks  and rode some awesome terrain what more can you ask for.
Thanks Scotty, Nick and all the sweeps for the weekend.
November 29, 2011 at 8:25 am #212358With Lefty back in the group I headed back down Ridge Runner. It had been good on the way up but often after 42 other bikes the trails can start to chop up but this was not an issue today. It was in better shape than on the way up as the top surface had been turned over and bike groomed. There was a foot wide line of grippy loam snaking off down the ridge and every turn had been pushed up into a manicured berm. I turned to drop a cornerman on top and this left TB and Crash behind me. I knew they would be jabbering away on the Bluetooth so I let loose. My bike felt like it was locked on rails and I had an awesome run down the trail. It was my highlight of the weekend and the memory of that primo ribbon of loam disappearing off into the distance is stuck in my head today.
At the bottom was one of the deeper crossings we would deal with and then it was back up Middle Ridge. We had ridden this on Friday and everyone had gotten up it so I thought we would hit it with the whole group. This is the section Murph and Mal filmed and as you can see it was a real test. I don’t know if anyone has shots of the sections above this as the trail stays steep and narrows along an off camber slope. Eventually everyone made it to the top and we set off for the next challenge. I knew the Widow Maker would be tough on a day like this but as we arrived at the base I looked up and realised it was going to as difficult as it can get.To Be Continued

It is easy to sit at home and say “That doesn’t look that hard” but that shot of the Widow Maker should silenece the critics. It is one nasty slab of rock that takes a lot of commitment for the average trail rider to commit to. We had 42 blokes at the bottom and only about 8 even tried and only 2 made it!!!
OBT did get some revenge on Sunday though.STM
How far up the widow did Mal 5.1 ‘can ride’ get King?
Great report and pics / vids lads. Awesome quality pics from that camera Mal 5.1 ‘can ride’. The widow shot is scarey and must be more so in the flesh!

Mal made some valiant attempts at the Widow Maker but lost traction on the steepest point and took about $2000 resale off that beautiful bike of his.
