i dont think it matters if its hot, cold or upside down if the valves are stuffed it doesnt wanna start, my brothers crf250x proved that, luckily we were riding in a hilly area so clutch starting was the order of the day.

I have never used the kickstart to get my WR running. Am I doing it harm by cold starting with the electric leg?

When cold and you are cranking it you put a lot of drain on the battery and cables etc. Also the Yamaha starters have been known to go bang on the odd occassion. Im no expert but for peace of mind I would use the kicker to start with from cold, starts up easily anyway;)

July 7, 2009 at 9:59 am #142491I don`t have a choice on the OBT Super Commuter She`s E Start only!!!
But I do sometimes have a bit of trouble when she`s cold in the mornings,,,,I will give your little trick a go Jeffro(3 slow twists)
CheersJuly 7, 2009 at 10:10 am #142554The guy I bought my WR off showed me the three twist trick and my WR has started well consistantly hot or cold, except for when it has bounced around on the back of my ute for a few hours. Maybe she gets car sick or she could be jealous that I am driving another machine:laugh:
That was until Ollie has guilted me into using the kickstart:(
July 7, 2009 at 9:58 pm #142492thanks for all your thoughts gentlemen i didn,t know about using kicker when cold either:huh: i used chris,s method and it started staight away but from now on i shall use the kicker when its cold. thats why old bulls is so bl##dy good lots of knowledge and experience.
cheers to all
bobJuly 8, 2009 at 2:54 am #142635Hey Novice
My 525 hasn’t been starting when cold on the electric leg. Adjusted the v/v’s yesterday and it started with the button no worries:)
Food for thought:unsure:
MurphJuly 8, 2009 at 3:23 am #142493I’m no genius on this but with my Husky, i leave the choke alone, turn on fuel, couple of twists of throttle, give it a few seconds to swallow it, hit the switch and it goes. My Mate with his Husaberg has nothing but drama’s trying to start( after hte lad he purchased it from told him not to touch throttle or itd flood), Couple of twists on the throttle it roars.? Go figure…Maybe it doesnt get cold as NSW here, we do get ice on the ground cold?? I’d try the throttle twist.. cant hurt.
August 10, 2009 at 7:40 am #142494My banana RMX 2 smoker is a pig to cold start and no electric leg, just about dose me in.once I run it for few minuts it will start first kick all day, hot or cold but put it to bed, next day same deal. Now I pull the plug and stick some juce down it’s throte but thats a real drag and it still takes agood few kicks to go…Anyone got a clue on this?
August 10, 2009 at 8:11 am #147784I find with the two strokes especially the bigger capacity ones the trick is to turn on your fuel and pull the choke, then tip it on its side for a couple of seconds until fuel flows out the overflow. Then give it a man Kick with a touch of throttle, works good most of the time. The other issue with the RMX is the compression has to be pretty good otherwise it may take some kicking.
Hope that works for ya

August 10, 2009 at 8:11 am #142495Hey Teza, been a while since i had a smoker.
how is it for compression, kms, serviced regularly etc.? condition of tube between the airbox-carb-inlet-head?
have you tried running the carb empty before putting her to bed?
carb sucking a small amount of air somewhere, and takes up once it’s run, gasket takes up.
how is it for tolerances on the slide/plunger to carb body?
hope one of those more in the know will point you in the right direction!
August 10, 2009 at 8:50 am #147789Teza, I should also add that during the colder months the air is Denser so your bike will run a bit leaner, you could richen up your pilot 1 size and or wind in on your air screw
cheers OllieB)
August 10, 2009 at 11:55 am #147805Yeh thanks guyes!I’l try all of that stuff that yu said. The bike is hardly worn at all so it should do somthing,eh! Cheers back to yu Teza.
August 10, 2009 at 12:55 pm #147837let us know how you go? do the simple things first;)

August 11, 2009 at 3:08 am #147844Ollies tip is a goer for every stock carbied RMX I’ve heard of, the basic problem with the RMX is the beancounters decided which carburettor was to be fitted, so they fitted the cheapest one availiable, apparently originally designed for methanol applications and WOT running. However it is a good point about top end condition, one of the better indicators is cold starting issues.
Gotta run, gotta put my new top-end back together now. Mine was fairly shagged but still starting cold first kick.
