Another cracker day was had at our Comboyne getaway !! We planned a bit of a shake down ride, so Kram140 could ease himself back into it, after breaking his wrist on the Sofala ride, also it would be a good opportunity for Connor to get some trail time on the new YZ250F.
Connor invited one of his school mates along as well on his YZ85LW and Moose and Alex decided that it sounded like fun too, so they were keen to hit our private trails at my inlaw’s property.
Moose’s young bloke Alex, seems to have claimed Mooses KTM250 and with Moose’s XR600 still in safari trim, Moose dragged out his old XR250R farmbike for a bit of a rev up. The old XR looks like Mr ED but in Mooses hands she goes like Phar Lap, although it was making some unusual smells during the day, as he rode it for all it was worth.
Upon arrival at the shed, the boys wasted no time kitting up, ready for a blast.
Alex has some new ride gear that looks like it could glow in the dark.Kram was pumped, he also needs a hair cut.
Like I said Moose rode the wheels off the poor old XR
Here Moose and Kram discuss the lack of tread on the rear of the Old XR
The boys love riding the bush and are stoked to have somewhere that they can legally do it.
Comboyne is a special place, it is a Plateau, 700meters above sea level and it has some great pockets of Alpine rainforest, I thought I would take the boys to one of my favourite places in the World. I dunno what it is about it but what we call “Hill’s Scrub” has a magical feel about it. No sooner did we step into the thick rainforest, even the young fellas felt it and where ‘Wowing” at the tangle of vines and the huge rainforest trees.
There are some awesome trees that form the canopy of the forest.
It is just a top spot and photos really don’t do it justice.
After that we stopped back at the Shed for some lunch and a beverage.
Moose and Kram, sharing a joke of some sort. The day was then spent, mucking around on natural terrain jumps, popping wheelies on the wheelie hill and cutting a few more laps of our loops. The boys where still keen to cut some more laps, so Moose, Kram and I headed back to the shed for a beer and left the boys to it.
Both Connor and Alex took to the 250’s well after making the big step up from big wheel 85’s, the boys where having a ball tearing up the loamy trails, jumping logs and popping wheelies with ease.
A great days riding was had by all with no breakdowns or crashes, we then packed up and headed back home, only to find out that Connor and I where free agents for the night, with the missus at work and the daughter at a sleepover, so we cranked up the Barbie and cooked up a bloke’s feed.
Once we where fed we headed off to Wauchope RSL to watch 16 bouts of live boxing, a top way to finish of, what was a great father and son day. Life is good.October 30, 2010 at 10:26 pm #189873Living the Dream… Great one mate…
October 30, 2010 at 10:45 pm #189878Sounds like a fantastic day out Mick. Would love to ride up that way with you guys one day.
October 30, 2010 at 11:41 pm #189880What a top day.
Thanks Mick, Moose and the boys for letting me tag along. I had a hoot.
Comboyne is certainly a great place to ride bikes and it’s a top spot to take the young’uns. Un molestered, leaf littered bush tracks with not another bike or car to spoil the fun.
It was great to see the young blokes riding so well, but you may have to start leaving them home soon so they don’t show up us older blokes
A great location, good riding, a few cold beers and a few laughts all in all a good day out I’d say.
The only downer for me was when I got home my young bloke had sized his bike
Oh well that’s birt bikes for you
Kram

No better way to clear new trails than to put a line of bikes through them so let me know when the ride weekend is on and I will be glad to help out.

We tried punching in another trail yesterday but ended up with bikes boiling and carrying on. A big fire went through last year and now is the time to start linking more trails. A day on the quad with a chain saw will have some more trails in the near future. :woohoo:
October 31, 2010 at 10:39 am #189879Nice report as usual Mick. The title is fair dinkum as gay as a title could be though   Field of dreams
I notice you didnt mention when you put Conner in front once you couldnt run him down  Dont worry but mate, experience will win for a while yet and then well your f*#ked mate, like I will one day with Lochie and Kieran
Good to see Kram back on the bike, practice up Kram I am up for a Plover rd race again
As for your young bloke bloke seizing his husky, thats not biking, thats a Husky
Moose on the older version of Burple well he is the most underrated rider I know, he would be competitive riding a wheel barrow
Again Mick great job mate, good pics the whole 10 yards. Cant wait to see your inlaws place

October 31, 2010 at 7:33 pm #189874Dunno why you think it is a gay thread title  The reason I called it that, is because not only did we ride the bush, we were out in the fields as well, there is some great natural terrain and a great hill for practicing wheelies on. It is just a dream place to have at our disposal to ride when ever we like. :woohoo: As far as the potential of the place to be an even better ride spot, we haven’t even scratched the surface really.
As for Connor blitzing me, that doesn’t worry me in the least, makes me very proud actually.
Experience doesn’t help either because kids don’t ride with monday in mind  , at the moment I am relying on horsepower alone to gain any advantage over him  .I am looking forward to showing you the place TB.
