    Burkey

I have UHF comms set up in my Helmet, I will have a look tonight and see what brand it is, from memory it wasn’t expensive and it plugs streight into the top of the Uniden UHF, 2 pin connecter.

This particular uhf has a thread where the mic plugs in which unfortunatley seems to rule out alot of accessories… bugger. The dude from NZ seems like a 2 – way boffin and i’m trying to convince him to invent a connection to go with his helmet set ups..silly bloody Japs go and invent a great waterproof unit like this..and no bloody accessories..no wonder they lost the war

Hi guys, just wondering what the pick of the 5W UHF’s is at the moment?

I am looking for a reasonable priced 5w UHF and would appreciate some feedback on equipment that has been tried & tested.

Currently considering a Uniden UH078SX-NB kit on fleaBay – UH078 Handheld & desktop charger, 2 x Lith batteries, Speaker Mic, 12v Car Charger, 3 yr warrenty all for $309 delivered. Seems a great deal but are the units up to the rough of ADV riding?

    Cheers, Dave

Hi Nick, I ended up buying an Icom IC-41S.

The bike club I am in here in QLD has been using Icom’s for 15 years and thay are tough as nails and very high quality and super reliable.

Downside is they are expensive and way more than I had wanted to pay, but they are the only fully made in Japan UHF Handheld on the market and every CB forum I have read comments they set the std in UHF Handhelds.

I got a deal from a local Brisbane Company called Delsound which was the best I could find – http://www.delsound.com.au IC-41S $363.44, Speaker Mic $87.32 & Car Charger Lead $16.50

They offer better discounts on qty purchases, my bike club will now be using them as we have been getting stitched elsewhere.

I havn’t used it yet but dont expect it will let me down.

Hope the above info may be of some use to someone else.

    All,

A mate put me onto the ICOM IC-41W UHF handheld.
This is a full 5 watt, made in Japan, metal bodied unit.

It eats the Uniden for breakfast, both in range and clarity.
The unit sells for $364 and $82 for the remote speaker/mic.

From several providers in Oz at this price, with 2 yr warranty.
The unit is waterproof ( IP67 ) 30 mins in up to a mtr of water ! and dustproof.

I carry the unit in the camelbac and run the mic lead under the arm and attach to lapel or front of jacket.
You can hear and transmit very well, even with some pace on.

I looked long and hard at the Uniden, but this unit was just sooo much better.
Use it at work, and write it off on tax as well.

    Tenere Shane
