iv got a 2012 ktm 450 excf, as iv had a cpl of electric and heating problems  iv had the bike apart , as part of the destruction of the bike trying to solve these iv drain the rads.
so what im wondering  is what coolant is everybody running as iv gone to get some today and there was several diff brands and they all offered diff qualities, and prices were a big diff, I don’t mind paying extra for something that works but not when it don’t, so what are you having success with and what ratiocheers wolfie

June 27, 2013 at 1:04 pm #244788thank’s Ollie was wondering about using car coolant, just wasn’t sure , 1 of the coolants I was looking at was liquid ice iv heard a few people mention it
June 27, 2013 at 8:41 pm #244794KTM’s do have a reputation for boiling mate. I have heard of others having success with Liquid Ice. I used it in my WRF and never boiled and I spend plenty of time crawling around the jungle in low gears in high humidity. Another plus with Engine Ice is how long it lasts in your bike.

June 27, 2013 at 9:28 pm #244789Hi Wolfie,
Mine has some (can’t remeber the name) premium coolant in it and then there was an additive ice something that the flogged me at the dealer when I got the bike.I cant remember the exact names of either but I will look tonight and let you know. :pinch:
The additive is supposed to make it run 15 degrees cooler, so far I haven’t boiled it.
I had heard that the KTM’s were marginal in the cooling capacity so anything they recommended in this regard I took as insurance.
June 27, 2013 at 9:30 pm #244796hay wolfi if you use concentrated car stuff make sure you water it down atleast to 50% or it will get hot not nothing wrong with car stuff but
June 28, 2013 at 7:39 am #244790I recently changed my radiator pipes flushed and changed coolant!!!
I put a shell brand multivehicle concentrate in. It came in a one ltr bottle so I mixed it 50/50 with distilled water all up price including water is about $24
No problems yet and I’m fairly hard on the gear!!!!
Im fairly sure you want to get the coolants that contain ethylene glycol!!! Maybe someone with more mechanical knowledge can vouch for this quote. I have also heard about the engin ice and only heard good this about it!!!! Just trying to find it at your local might be a task though..I’m sure they will help out as mine is good at tracking anything down.
Cheers hope this helps, if you we’re thinking about concentrate coolant.
but make sure you use distilled water at a 50/50 ratioAndy
June 28, 2013 at 9:28 am #244791Ok wolfie I just checked.
The coolant is Motul inugel expert ultra mixed at 50 % and the additive is Motul Mo Cool, bottle says that it raises the boiling point and makes it runs 15 deg cooler.
The Mo Cool is mixed at 5%.June 28, 2013 at 9:56 am #244956Hi Wolfie got a berg 390 had trouble with overheating

June 28, 2013 at 10:28 pm #244793Read the specs …………………
its on the drum ………………………..every drumits all ethylene glycol just varies in concentration ……..i think
Plus all the additives which may be snake oil or may be beneficial
mixtures are important though to much or too little = boil
