Can any one tell me is it normal and i’m guessing NO that my klx450 weeps out the weep hole under my water pump only when it’s getting a thrashing.
I have just put a new waterpump seal in and replaced fluid with engine ice.
October 1, 2009 at 9:05 am #154801No mate if its coming out the weep hole, the weep hole is there to tell you the water pump seal is leaking. If it wasn’t for the weep hole the coolant would get passed the water pump drive oil seal and get into the engine oil.
Sorry sounds as the the water pump seal job wasn’t done correctly or there is another problem in the water pump area but normally its the seal

October 1, 2009 at 9:07 am #154802What was the shaft like if it has a few ks on it there could be a grove cut in to it from the seals and the new ones wont get to seal on it tightly so under load/pressure it will weep some coolant out
check your coolant for foaming by shakeing some in a clear bottle
October 1, 2009 at 9:14 am #154806what will it mean if it is faoming?

Just fix the leak before you worry about that
Bulls right as far as the wear in the water pump shaft goes or in maybe not fitted square in the housing etc.

Foaming coolant will cause severe cavation in and around the impella and cause a stall in the flow of coolant and this makes the impella hammer around and load the seal bearings of the water pump :S

Sure but he also changed coolant so maybe try just water and its cheeper to use till the problem is found but like i said in my pm to Corey8 i am happy to look at it for him if he is close to Port and check seals and shafts ect

October 10, 2009 at 10:48 pm #155947Hey Corey, the spring side of the seal should be on the water side of the pump.
