Day One Cooranbong to Mt Seaview
Mark had organised 9 of us in total and we all gathered at Cooranbong for a 6am start. Mark led away and stopped for our first and only flat tyre 20kms later at Mulbring and then we headed up through Morpeth and East Seaham to Black Camp rd where the ride really started We headed east into Stroud . A quick fuel stop for a few of the bikes with small tanks then and then east along Simmsville rd going down into Purgatory rd. You have to be able to remember that one. Coming out on Old Inn rd just out of Bulahdelah. From here we turned left into Markwell rd and right into Manning Hill rd to Bunyah. Manning Hill rd has great views and winds & twists through the hills for ages with the dust kicking up and the misty drizzle the goggles at the back of the pack were clouding up to a spattered mess.
From Bunyah we followed Bunyah rd then left into Waterloo rd to Tipperary rd to Titaatee Creek rd to Bakers Creek rd through to Bundook.
Manning Hill, Titaatee crk and Bakers crk are great fun roads for any bike. Going through some forgotten farm country roads with crests hiding which way the road would go. There are a few Fords which I must say first hand, are as slippery as wet rubber on weed. This gave Strongy a bit of a show when I punted sideways for what seemed like forever and made it to the other side unscathed. After Bundook we followed Callaghan’s Creek rd and crossed the Manning River on Tiri rd. This is nice low lying bridge over the Manning River
We had lunch and fuelled up at Mt. George and then headed north up Knodingbul rd and turned right into Potoroo rd.
It had been very dusty all morning but after this we saw no more dust all weekend. And on went our wet weather gear not to be taken off till we got home on Sunday night.
It started raining now so the camera stayed in the pocket for most of the day. At the end of Potoroo we turned left into Rusty rd, left into Dingo Tops rd to the Dingo Tops camping area at the intersection of Dingo Tops rd and Knodingbul rd. From here Graham and Ian left us to follow Knodingbul rd directly to the Oxley Hwy as the BMW was starting to be a handful on the wet clay. We followed Knodingbul and turned right into Padmans rd to Ellenborough Falls where we had a pie, coffee and homemade Blackberry pie. Then we followed Glenwarrin rd to Blue Knob rd back to Knodingbul rd. Knodingbul rd had been recently graded in parts and it looked like Graham would have been having fun in some of the slushy parts. As it turned out he rode the entire way (40kms) only to slip off on a greasy rut 200 metres from the Oxley.
We turned right into Causeway rd, right into Racing Camp rd, right into Deb rd, left into Goanna trail, right into the Old Hwy, left into Ralfes trail then right onto the Oxley and down to our overnight stop at Jaspers Peak resort at Mt Seaview.
It was 5pm and Graham and Ian had arrived 30 minutes earlier.
Total for today 408kms from CooranbongWe soon forgot about the rain after a shower and a drink or three and a nice dinner
Day Two Mt. Seaview to Nundle and home
We woke up in the morning to this and resigned ourselves to a day of rain.
We had a nice warm cooked breakfast and set off at 9am. The rain started at 9:05am
Graham and Ian decided to ride on the tar to Walcha and Gloucester as the BMW wasn’t going to be much fun on slippery dirt roads.
We then headed west along the Oxley and tuned left into Enfield rd right at New Country Swamp into Mummel rd and follwed this to Mummel Forest rd through to Brackendale rd to Peel Creek rd then Hell Hole rd to Thunderbolts Way. We crossed Thunderbolts into Topdale rd then left into Nundle Forest way. We stopped at Ponderosa camping area for a wee break and photos
As the photos show it was cold and wet but the roads had great traction.
We headed down to Nundle for lunch and petrol. But as is often the case there is no petrol at Nundle so we rode 20kms up to Woolomin. Then we headed back to Crawney rd and over Crawney Pass Left into Isaacs crk rd and right into Pages crk rd. By now it was after 4pm and we were on a mission to get home at a reasonable time.
We kept on moving through Gundy, past Glenbawn Dam and right into Stoney crk rd to Albano rd and over all those slippery fords
We headed towards Singleton but turned left into Retreat rd on the outskirts of town and followed all the back roads to Branxton were we fuelled up and headed home through Kurri.
I arrived home at 8.00pm and looked at my speedo saying 1008Km
This was a top ride Mark. Thank you.
Great bunch of riders, Food was good, accommodation was on the money, warm and dry and they were even very pleasant in the way they closed the bar and kicked us out at stumps.
This ride flowed from back road to dirt road to almost forgotten road and only popped into town to get fuel and food. I am still buzzing (maybe still from the 640). Looking at Google Maps this morning is just astounding how many squiggly lines we took. I have wanted to see this country side for a long time and now the hunger is bigger seeing all the other roads up there that you can get to. The precipitation did get a little heavy at times, and I was thankful for a good setup with my riding gear & heated grips.
Mark didn’t mention the amount of Roos that were friendly enough to come out and play chicken with him. The whole group travelled well together, AND how good was the pie at Ellenborough Falls. They had heaps of cakes & goodies & coffee n tea.

From memory they didn’t look like real bikes,

yep you summed it up pretty good, except you should have also said “with a smile on their face no matter what they are riding”
