Day one and two
Tryhard and myself set off from White Cliffs NSW about 3pm and headed for Tibooburra. Just as the light was fading we arrived to find the Tibooburra Festival in full swing. After finding accommodation in the pub, having a good feed, chatting to the locals and tourists, it was nice to have a nice warm bed for the first night.
Not for long though. It was a bit after 6am when we left Tibooburra for Cameron’s Corner in the dark, thinking it would be light soon.
Tryhard at day break
Looking good for a top day of riding
The sun was fully up when we were half way there. The roos were very friendly, as they were the whole trip, any time of day.
The tourist things had to be done at the Corner.
The corner post
Me sleeping on the corner post it looks like
After topping up with fuel and a bacon and egg roll we headed north to Innamincka.
These roads were open out of Cameron’s
And these around Innamincka
Cooper Creek. Go for it Joe
Had a top lunch at Innamincka and they even had boutique beers on tap, topped up fuel again, got in trouble for riding too fast in the car park…sorry, angry posh lady…and took off for more sight seeing.
Bourke’s grave
Check out the sign at the top of the photo. 2010 flood level
Dig Tree stockade
We rode south and camped near Santos Station off the side of the road just on sunset. A nice little fire with only the sound of the wind and 16yo port. Ahhhh the serenity.
Peak hour was about 6am the next morning when one 4wd went past.

Said gday to Fenn who nearly did himself out of $100 worth of fuel due to a faulty pump price reel. Too honest we are. had a laugh with him. Saw old Dave at bollards and rode the Bore track. Bottom half good although a bloke travelling through with a film crew broke some ribs in a crash. top half not maintained and is closed, making interesting riding. All signs ripped off and I mean broken off. Had 6 drops of rain the whole trip.
More RR to come.

June 16, 2011 at 10:29 am #203520Great report and pics Lotsa. How do you guys get so many leave passes to ride as much as you do??
June 16, 2011 at 9:49 pm #203464Good read Lotsa but doesnt explain what happen to the DR why its broke
What was the longest distance you did between fuel stops because you wanted a 600 km range on the pre ride thread. How did Try Hard carry enough for 600km?Mick people have time to do these rides cause they tell their other half and go not the other way around maybe???? I think its that and you just have to make time, if you dont you could end up like Mal from Suttos with 6 months to live and I would hate to have regrets, thats just my take on it anyway. You do get asked and I have bent over backwards to try and accommodate you for last years Camerons even offering to pull parts of my XR for you to use. Come along one day I know you will love it
bring the mighty NX on one like the one in Aug starts up the coast and you only need two days off you have just about everything you need and could travel to the start with Moose and Kram

14 ltrs in front aux tank
2 x 4ltr jerry cans in each pannier42ltrs in total
Lotsa will have to tell you the longest distance we did as I didn’t take notice.

Great lover I guess

TBDay three is still to come. I’ll get round to it soon.
Not sure on longest distance. I carried 50lt which should get me 700km. Maybe 600km. Fuel quality is very low out there which affects bike performance and fuel range. Something to take into consideration if fuel range is at the limits.June 17, 2011 at 11:26 pm #203532micknmeld wrote:Great report and pics Lotsa. Believe it or not, I have already done what would be the trip of a life time for most people. 6 weeks away from my family, really showed me how much they mean to me. Not really good at spending extended time away from home with out them now.
June 18, 2011 at 11:45 pm #203466Day three
We broke camp and were on the road a bit after 7am. The extra fuel was tranfered to the main tanks the night before so the bike handled a lot better. Still in QLD for a while travelling south until we crossed the border and fence.
Just before the boarder
spot the dingo, centre frame
Tryhards kato and the road off into the distance. More sky than land out there
Crossing the QLD/NSW boarder we mucked around a bit
The only speed cameras out here were ours
Back in Sturt NP apparently
I got a flat a bit later. Must have had a big hit on the rear wheel but nothing stood out that I took notice of.
The rim damage
The tube has seen better days
The out take shot
Me changing a tube, had lots of practice lately. Who makes an ultra HD tube for a 17” rim. I mean Ultra.
Must be me checking if I had shat myself after the back end of the bike tried to overtake me, keeping it upright and running off the road just before stopping
There are worse placed to get a flat
Fuel started to be an issue so we went into Tibooburra to top up and found this
Luckily TJ’s was 800m down the road. They couldn’t be more helpful. Locals were telling us about tracks and the lady there rang around Wanaaring and Hungerford for fuel and a couple of stations for track conditions. The route was planned from there to go to Wannaaring up to Hamilton gate on the dog fence, Hungerford overnight and easy run to White Cliffs the next day.
Roads east of Tibooburra
127km from the last flat I had another. Thew another tube in and got going again.
10 km after another.
Ok, something’s up here. I checked the rim and tyre and found a tear inside of the tyre that was chewing threw the tubes.
Double rubber the tube and alls well
Tryhard was so bored with my flats he even offered to help.
I had to take a photo
Half way along to Wanaaring a sign to White Cliffs made our decision.
The rear tyre was out of balance noticeably and had split
20km down the road there was a nasty noise that sounded like I had stripped the front sprocket. Everything looked ok but a bearing noise was coming from the gearbox at idle, first and 5th. With the split in the tyre and dodgy box it was a slow trip to White Cliffs.
Stoped for a break a bit later and the output shaft seal had let go.
No need to lube the chain
Some entertainment along the way
You don’t need melons like these to ride around here
We covered the Km expected which was about 1300km in two days and a couple of hours. As usual, the route planned on the gps doesn’t happen on the ground and given time constraints exploring isn’t possible.
Points of note were
· We only passed about a dozen passenger vehicle the whole trip
· Most of the tourist we came across had flown themselves in with light aircraft
· Cameron Corner had 46,000 vehicles through, the year before the flood and now has only 7,000 for the year
· It hasn’t rained out there for 3 months
· The roads are like freeways, let her rip
· Fuel quality is poor, affecting consumption rates and bike performance
· Definitely an experience for the adventure rider not to miss
· One of my best rides
We didn’t see any bikes on the whole trip.June 19, 2011 at 6:34 pm #203467Good ride report lotsa! And the ride sounded great too! :woohoo:
June 19, 2011 at 6:48 pm #203468Well done Lotsa & Tryhard :cheer:

June 19, 2011 at 7:21 pm #203709Well done gentlemen
It looks like it was a fantastic ride and not without a little drama.
It’s really wet my appetite for the Cameron’s ride later this year.
Given the chance is there anything you would have done differently?????
AND where do you get those Ultra heavy duty 17″ tubes?????
