I’d like to think that KTM or Husky or GG do it first as they deserve to for the continued R&D they do with the 2T powerplant.don t you think there wasting there time with two strokes just look at the results in the mx and sx championships around the world lucky to get anyone to enter a race on one .there outdated and there power delivery is not suited to racing unless your old and sit on the back of the seet
 :woohoo: :side: so i spose its okay for them to persist with pds
back in the day i road a ktm400 2001 model back to back with my wr400 2000 model the wr had the beter moter but the ktm handled and steered heaps better?was funny to follow but the back seemed to skip around a lot. i like this thread its fun[/quote]
that is crap rocket…is your giggle hat getting tight
wasting their time with 2 strokes??? over half the bikes in the WEC and Indoor champs are 2 bangers
havent you got cows to milk
August 16, 2010 at 10:42 am #186053no cows to milk menace just fish to catch. :lol:i did say mx and sx
August 16, 2010 at 1:41 pm #186054Now you’ve got me going on something I’m really passionate about rocket….
equal capacity classes, 500 2t with a mild torquey power delivery in a modern chassis will eat the equivalent 4T alive in MX & SX, why do you think Honda lobbied so hard to get unequalt displacement. A 2T 250 against a 450 yep that’s making it fair. Have a look on TT for the volumes and volumes of info on this that has been discussed, including project two2fiftys’ tilt at trying to get a poor old 2502T into a national round.
there is so much technology just waiting to be introduced into 2t dirtbikes that is tried and proven in other recreational arenas. Not that it concerns me greatly at the moment for I am a patient person, circles have a way of going around and around, see my sig for clarity….
Menace you may ride a PDS my friend, but that is easily outweighed by the fact you are a 2T brother…..
to quote one of my riding mates halfway up a narrow tight s/T as we stopped for a photo-op with the stupid crin on hs face “4T riders just don’t get it do they”, his rides?
CR500
TM250
CR125
and the lad can pedal a bike quite nicelyAugust 16, 2010 at 9:32 pm #186062so i will buy a 2stroke so i can ride single track than  or i will buy a 4stroke so i can ride tight single track than fire trail on the freeway and back into singletrack than some motocross .ps love two strokes just wanted to read less about bags and drz s  and get some bullshit going.reckon the new ktm 300 will be good with the 6speed box they need it
August 16, 2010 at 9:41 pm #186063damn straight Bruce, they just dont get it do they.
i know deep down rocket wants a 200exc coz theyre fun.
ive heared it straight from the horses mouth.
and i couldnt give a rats arse for mx/sx. its one small man made niche, wanked up to the max like everything else in the states (no offence krusty). KTM will take that over with the 350 soon anyway
not that i care  :laugh:if you like rocket i will burn you some dvd’s of erzberg and romaniacs and last man standing enduros….etc for you and mail them up.
you will be amazed at the amount of 2 bangers, especially 300s.as extreme as they all are, they are still a lot closer to the type of riding we all do
its real racing
August 16, 2010 at 9:49 pm #186064think you may be correct in the above post menace and if i had the cash would buy a ktm200 tomorrow and have two bikes think i may be dreaming there but.those erzberg and romainiacs video s are good to watch
August 16, 2010 at 10:01 pm #186065This thread cracks me up, started about magazines and their perspective, then there was a fishing comp with some big catchs
Then ends up with an erzberg riding cripple, a thinking vintage bike rider and a giggle hat wearing cocky going on and on about PDS and then the taking over of the world by two strokes
Keep going dont stop
is a tongue in cheek comment

August 16, 2010 at 10:22 pm #185800Always a touchy subject the PDS from KTM..
Maybe for the pro-racer the PDS can be a handful but I have to question why the KTM’s do so well in the WEC, FIM indoor and even single races such as Erzberg and last man Standing.
There are always those that froth at the mouth and start jibbering when it comes to the PDS. But really, how many riders here and on other forums would ever take the PDS past its performance limits ? Not many… For the weekend warrior they work well and are almost maintenance free, sure they have got their niggly traits but once you get used to them you know what to look for, and you know when the rear is going to jump around on you..
Quote:equal capacity classes, 500 2t with a mild torquey power delivery in a modern chassis will eat the equivalent 4T alive in MX & SX…I am not sure what the above is, what is equivalent.. capacity ?
.. all you are saying is that if we get a modern bike, whack in a docile 500 2t and it would be fast.. well duh!! Of course it will as it has got more power, less weight and more then likely it can get most of that power to the ground..
In the end it is each to their own.. But when I buy a new bike, I hope you don’t mind if I ignore the PDS bashers and buy another Orange..
August 16, 2010 at 10:53 pm #185801None taken Menace… Wanked up is putting it nice.. Not sure why but we sepos like everything super sized…
I find the thread fascinating as well as the ability for civility in the debate.. Cool stuff guys… I would like to one day have a go on one of these orange bikes to see what I’m missing..
:woohoo:
Quick question in regards to the 2t verses 4t.. I always thought 4t was presumed better for trail riding because you can use the engine for braking where a 2t won’t allow it.. How does this fit? I use my motor in a lot of instances IE; going into a nice wide turn, for braking before I actually use the brakes..

are you going to nundle krusty, you can ride mine there if you are. i dont mind showing you the orange light mate
as for trail riding….you get used to no engine braking. sometimes its an advantage, sometimes not.
i go through lots of rear pads but i can place the bike better with a brake than with compression. i used to ride 4 strokes but smokers are much more fun :laugh:if i ride a 4 stroke now i feel like im gonna go over the bars everytime i back off
August 17, 2010 at 12:23 am #186071they are all fun, but for ME and many others 2T is funner, I hate engine braking it takes the control away from me therider, even my last big roadies had slipper clutches fitted, I like brakes (fairly obvious eh TB?) and I brake how and when I wish to, and if I want to sail into a corner freewheeling I damn well will.
Anyway it’s all good, keeps us intersting and relevant, cause exactly what we are discussing here is what the yanks are talking about on TT as well (I’ve missed seppomenace tho”) so it must be on everyones minds. And Barker of course that’s all I’m saying, big lazy torquey 2T in light chassis will kick ass so why wasn’t it allowed?
August 17, 2010 at 1:09 am #186074I will continue to ride my big heavy 4T XR650 with its new suspension with a big smile on my dial.
I wont bag other people’s bikes, as long as they are happy riding it, who am I to judge? Just get out there and ride the bloody thing and have fun doing it, is my motto for today.
Life is too short, to worry.

When they all finally have a linkage they won’t have anything to complain about, maybe. You never know, they may even buy one one day (like Bruce might). There’s probably enough of them around nowdays anyway (I have one too). For me I’m kinda stuck with them as my requirements are 2T and Rego in this sheet state of ours NSW. There is no other dealers around me other than GG (I fear them, I don’t know why).
Your right though, when you see something that may assist in spitting you off you do what you can to minimise the damage (big tree roots or logs at high speed). Anything else is purely psychological. If you ride a PDS bike with the thought it is going to spit you off because of the rear suspension, guess what…..?
Every bike has it’s weakness, some just feel the need to constantly bang on about it, and so the the same arguments continue.

Does anyone remember minibikes called Taco or Rockhopper?
