At least you can admit defeat there Snowy :P

Sounds exactly like my old Kwaka shim job I did a few years back.
You will be surprised at how easy the damn thing starts after whacking the shims in, she will start as soon as you go near the magic button B)

No idea why you need to wait for” Shims” !!!
There`s an over abundance of those type that ride with you isn`t there ????? :P

Good luck with the install mate, My hint is to let Damus do it for ya …

    Cheers

Well you have found the problem Snowy so that’s good. From experience and I hope I am wrong with yours but once shimmed I doubt you will get 15hrs out of the valves before they close again. I have seen it a few times, Nickj’s for example, STM’s there has been a few. Valves will need replacing then, good news is set of kibble white valves and a seat service and it will last a long time. DONT LAP THE NEW VALVES IN. I did NickJ’s must be 80 hrs ago (Nick?) no more shimming. Nick at Tekniks did his head, did big Al’s head good job and cheap. You don’t need all the springs and crap they say we have proved that. We have proved you don’t need special seats and 1000 dollar head services. You can send the head to Tekniks or ring Nick I am sure he will help with some advice.
Nick @ Tekniks has a lot of CRF experience including some testing I think around the bikes and pre their release in Aus they saw air filter testing etc back then. Standard air filters and good filter oil, only Bel Ray or Motul is the go, filters need washing a few times, then hot soapy water and dried out and then blown out with low pressure air when dry. An old clothes dryer is the trick actually. They help blow and bounce the remaining dust out when dry. Try tapping one you think you have cleaned out when it’s dry on a piece of glass. The CRF won’t tolerate that dust like most bikes will it seems.

This thread will help and remember Nick was doing the heads cheap if you pull it of there and send it. If you had it done there he would also help with parts etc I am sure

    Good luck

Tb is right once you start adjusting them they’re on their way out. I got my head done up at tekniks and I only made a small adjustment 4-5 hours later. Since then they haven’t moved.

As TB said , I got under 15 hrs after a second shim and they closed again, save the hassle go the Kibble whites ( 92hrs now :) ) and as a bit of a bonus throw in a stage 2 hot cam , you’ll love it ;)

And while your at it put in a 450 kit

    #255139

I ditched my stock valves and installed Kibbles before I even hit 15 hours. Since then I have not had an issue. I had no head work done and my bike starts when you breath on the button!

Im confused the minimum booking is thirty minutes – what do you do for the other 29?

Will organise the valves ready for the red ones head job, but will do what Damus wants first so am reshimming it this week but getting prepared for what seems the inevitable. Plus some mechanicing lesons from the super sweep will not hurt.

Thanks for all the responses boys. See how much betterl tech help works when putting shit in is allowed.

I agree with what everyone has already said, but I went with a different brand to kibble whites and had the new valves re-seated. The bike will get it first run this weekend with my younger brother on board. Here’s hoping.
In essence Snowy, while you have the super sweep on the job contact Matt and order a stainless valve kit. From memory I think the kibble whites were $192-00 and the brand I went with was $142-00 which was pro X. I hope this helps.

    Bugger

Just found this thread and i think i might have missed the oportunity to take the piss :pinch:

All i can think of to help is perhaps your bike is thinking a bit like a little pony watching a big fat sheila walking into the stables with a saddle in her hands :cheer:

If i was your bike…thats what i would be thinking every time you walked into the garage :P

    Bol :woohoo:

Sam’s CRF went a similar path, not sure how many rides after the first shim but they close quickly once they’ve needed shimming.

We put Kibble White SS valves (springs and new seals) in, no lapping and he had no problems.

    Adam.
