I recently bought the new funnel web air filter for my 2008 Crf250x. Initially it looked like a good thing , well made , good design etc.
When I first fitted it I found it didn’t have a rubber lip that located around the air filter cage like the standard and although once installed on the bike it was in position I didn’t feel it was sealing to the air box very well.
Has anyone else had experience with these ?
Thanks in advance

Nick
July 29, 2012 at 9:28 am #226817I use “twin air ” ones on my crf. I still use the original and cycle them till I have enough to warrant getting all the cleaning stuff out. That web one looks good but because of the tight access I would have thought it may make it harder to slide it into position. I have put a small tear in the original filter because of the same issue. The after market ones certainly don’t seem as high quality as hondas but they still seem to do the job

I have been using a funnel web on Steve’s 530 and am impressed by the quality of the filter and the fit. 95% of air filters don’t have a rubber sealing lip I am struggling to think of the last bike I saw with one actually and I see a few through home and Steve’s workshop
Grease the sealing edge if you like doing that it will be fine. I have given up greasing the lips on my bikes and all of the adventure moto bikes I look after now. I have been watching the air tracts to the carby to see if it makes a difference and have seen a problem yet.
Good filter oil is the most important thing I reckonTB
July 29, 2012 at 11:27 am #226879I have one on the KTM, haven’t had any dramas, it seems to seal very well, I took the seat off the first time so I could see the sealing and it was all good.
Cheers
July 29, 2012 at 5:37 pm #226881I was very happy with the one I bought for my WE but I plan to only use Honda genuine on the CRF.

Yeah Scott I have heard from sources over the years about the CRFs use only genuine and had it drilled into me when I bought my XR from GHR (they use a new non-genuine filter every ride or did in 2008 at Finke) One of our own Old Bulls had a bit to do with the ADR and development of the Aussie CRF and I am sure he recommends only use the genuine air filter. Don’t know myself, good twin wall and good oil maybe I reckon still.

July 30, 2012 at 7:32 pm #226972I understand these funnel web filters are suppose to be the go but what is the benifit over a standaed twinair type filter? Cheaper and no dust seems to get through?
