Just had my bike blow up at the Yellow Mountain race. Its an 08 model I bought new. Regular oil changes but has done a fair amount of racing pony expresses and 3 Yellow mountain races and 1 Condo 750, so some high speed stuff.
It started missing, I pulled up, it was rattling and then it seized. I just pulled the top end down and there were no dramas, but the big end bearing is seized and the oil was full of brass coloured metal shavings. I will have to split it to see what else is stuffed.
Is this common in these 450’s? Is it worth fixing or what are the chances of finding a complete second hand motor to put in it?

Sounds like a candidate for a CR500 engine conversion.

Sorry I no nothing else about CRF450’s.

The only info I could find on the site regarding a CRF450 crank is this gem. Dunno if it will help or not, it will let you know what you are up against.

It appears that they aren’t that big of a drama to rebuild.

CRF’s only have std crank $281.15 and stroker crank $376.15 . dunno on post though.

if the crank it’s self is good. a rod and bearing kits aren’t over the top either. as rocket said coin for spanner time is the biggest cost factor.

Not to worried about pulling it down and putting it back together. New crank may be the go. Where has all the brass coloured metal come from?

Not too familiar with them but most rods have brass little ends(piston pin bearing).
    Good luck with it. ;)
