Hi TB, this is my second set and these have done about 7000km. I recon that I need to pop around your place at some stage to figure these things out.

When will be convenient for you, weekend wise?

    Hey TT,

Things will slow down now mate lets organise that catch up and see if we can sort these rubbers out. I was looking at them through a rum induced state recently and have a better idea again (actually meant to discuss it with Jacko at Coffs :pinch: )

Will PM you my number and we can get it sorted and get a ride in eh?

That sounds like a plan TB. I have been trying a fix on the broken cush rubbers for about 2000kms now that seems to work so it will be great to share notes and ideas. That ride also sounds like a plan mate!

My rubbers were broken and starting to wear at 1800km on a brand new bike. Fitted some 606 for my first ever foray into the dirt as I went on the 4 day APC Qld Navigation rally. It was my first ever time on knobbies, dirt, using GPS etc. What an eye opener.

Anyway, bike has now done another 1900km all offroad so will see what state the cush drives are in now

Welcome Yellow900. The cush drive rubbers are a funny thing I know Nick and I get about 4k max yet you talk to others that get 15k  its not that the rubbers are broken it that you can feel the thing vibrate through the drive line when rolling on in top gear.

Heaps more info for a new Tenere owner TB’s Ten 10k old and TB’s Ten 20k on

I have nearly 34k on my as of last night when I parked it. It has been great. Enjoy yours and the site mate and hopefully see you on the APC next year

    Folks,

this is a mod that I did to my broken set of cush drive rubbers about 4000km ago. It worked just fine for the 4000km and when I pulled the tyre this morning to fix a flat, I still could not see any free movement between the sprocket housing and rim even though the mod itself was pretty much worn out.

This is what my cush drive rubbers looked like after I cleaned them up this morning. Most will agree that they are pretty much screwed. That said, for a couple of dollars you can still make them work OK.

Cut some bicycle inner tube into lenghts so that you slip the cush drive rubbers into the inner tube sleeves.

The modified cush drive rubbers fitted. There is no free play and the sprocket housing pushes straight in and into its original position. This mod costs almost nothing and lasts at least 4000km.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers, TT

Thanks for sharing that mod TT , it’s different to the inner tube mod I’ve seen in the past and if you get an extra 4000km out of your rubbers that great. ;)
