Pretty sure that was coolant from the radiators that got smashed in the front Scott, chances of fire in these and most racing vehicles is small. Sure it happens but with dry break fuel cells and all other precautions it is a lot safer. Reckon it would be pretty scary upside down watching liquid pouring out and you are in the belts, you wouldn’t be hanging around do a full breakdown of whats what
Great video, showed more than just the crash

That is the Dakar though
Its what he signed on for with the Speedbrain team
Some info regarding his day
From Safariberg
“To be confirmed, but I believe that Fishy lost the time fitting a new engine off the T4 support race truck that provides back up to the Speedbrain team, he did it trackside and got back to the bivouac in time to still start todays stage but got a lot of late time for being over due, plus the time out on the stage etcThe team very much expect him to be there as waterboy for the other 3 riders and is not likely to get let off the leash so to speak”

Makes sense it would be coolant. If you listen closely you can here the co-driver say “we got fuel leaking everywhere Rob”. They certainly got out quick after that.
Great footage. I like the look on there faces when they go over that dune. Gordan and the Hummer are fast but until he can put together a consistant two week race and not just the odd fast special he will struggle to get on the top of the podium.
January 12, 2013 at 12:08 am #235394Some cracker pics I thought I would share
This one says it all for RG
Biggest off-road race in the world?

January 12, 2013 at 12:16 am #235438Looks like a missile landed just behind his bike, very cool
Even though it must be frustrating for Matt Fish, he signed up to do a job for his team and they are paying him for it. If it wasn’t for the Husky team he probably wouldn’t even be there. (lucky boy)
Whats going on with Hondas reliable reputation. Maybe Hoffman didn’t rebuild the engines after the Aussie Safari
Grabham is moving up :woohoo:

GOING GETS TOUGH… GRABBO GETS GOINGDay 6 of the world’s biggest off-road race saw the Dakar Rally’s most demanding stage yet, and the best result yet from Aussie hero Ben Grabham.
The HSE Motorex KTM Desert Racing Team rider finished 12th in the stage, hoisting himself up another four positions to 22nd overall.
Chilean KTM rider Francisco Lopez won the stage from Ruben Faria and Cyril Despres, with Frenchman Oliver Pain maintaining his lead in the Dakar for a third consecutive day.
The 141 remaining motorcycle competitors faced the starter at 2am this morning, for a 280-kilometre Liaison (transport) section to the start of the day’s massive 454-kilometre Special Stage.
The first Chilean stage threw everything but the kitchen sink at competitors, from sand dunes, to rocks and fesh-fesh, finishing up with a 100-kilometre climb to an altitude of 3000 metres.
Grabham took it all in his stride; “a good day today. I felt comfortable and pushed a bit harder while still looking after the bike and myself. There was a faster section with some dunes and I passed a few guys while building confidence with the bike and navigation each day.
“I’m looking forward to the longer, harder stages coming up and the marathon stage tomorrow.”
Tomorrow it only gets tougher; the ascent of the Andes Cordillera continues early in the morning, with a liaison stage taking competitors to a record altitude of 4975 metres, atop Argentina’s highest mountain pass.
For that Special Stage the altimeter will fluctuate between 3400 and 3900 metres, with speeds rarely dropping below 100kph.
With competitors still yet to eclipse the halfway point of the famous rally, a mountain of physical, mental and mechanical challenges still remains ahead. For more information on KTM motorcycles visit http://www.ktm.com.au

Unfortunately I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to watch them……the only updates I was getting was this thread (thanks TB & Eagle) and reviewing the Dakar site.
So……. my juices are flowing and it’s excited me to want to head to Stockton Beach and ‘potter’ on the sand dunes and pretend I’m flying…… girl has to have dreams……
I don’t think I’ll ever delete these shows as I’ll rewatch them over and over for pointers…maybe even have a Dakar viewing night…
Keep updating the thread guys….

Keep an eye on the Spanish lady, no:36 Laia Sanz. Click on her number or name and read her details……..tough as teak!
It says 2012 was great year for her, she won the World Trials title (12th in a row), won her 1st World Enduro title, but unfortunately had to have x3 operations on her toe (that she almost lost) before she could start training in October for the January Dakar. It also said she finished 39th in last years Dakar.
She’s currently 39th.
How good is that?

$100 says Grabbo wins Dakar within 5 years. He is putting in a top effort for his first attempt.
And i would almost put the same bet on Fish if they let him loose after this year.
Go the Aussie’s :woohoo:
January 16, 2013 at 7:50 am #233481Did you see that the only remaining chic Sanz (#36) came into the bivouac at 5am towed in by her team mates. She had been on the bike for 24 hrs. 3 hrs later after an engine change to fix an oil problem she was back at the start with a 17 hr penalty. What a amazing chic…
