My bike riding hard drive failed the other day thanks in part to my pet rabbit trying to get he laptop off my lap. The external drive unmounted while transferring files. Now the files don’t show up on any computer. The HD is recognised but not accessible.

I download a free scan and it shows the files but now it’s $100 for a key to allow the program to recover the files.

The program is called ‘Data Rescue 3’.

Does any have experience with these programs? Are worth the money? Do they work? Is there a cheaper way to do it? I don’t mind paying for the program as I will probably use it again with all the hard drives floating around here.

And yes I should have backed up this drive. I have a new drive here to do just that.

Mal it maybe just worth while giving it to a nerd in Bathurst and getting it saved. Then do the back ups more often? I dont have any experience with the softwares I have just had Chris and a nerd in Penrith save mine before, cost $25

You need a nerd mate. You pay a hundy for that software and get half your files back and you are none the better. Find a local with glasses and get them to fix it. Nate80 is a wizard and has saved me big time but he is on the Coffs Coast.

Not totally sure if it will help but you can do a system restore in windows and set the date to pre bunny hop. This may help

I have trust issues with nerds I don’t know so probably won’t take it to a shop unless they come recommended.

One nerd at work should have something but he is in the US of A for a couple more weeks. Just thought of another nerdish guy, will contact him.

Windows system restore won’t work Plindz as I was using my stupid Macbook Air at the time. Maybe I should have let the bunny throw it on the ground so I could go back to a windows computer.

Data Rescue 3 found 800 of 900 GB of data so I’m thinking I’d get most of it back. Still there is no guarantee I get the files I want.

Had a look at that forum Dickie. WOW talked about nerd city!! I think my Bios was flashed and I was defraged before I opened the first thread. I feel violated now.

No Worries – i use a mac also.

Book yourself an appointment at the Genius Bar at your closest Apple store – they will fix it in front of you. Well worth the time

‘Genius Bar”!!! That’s a flash name. The closest store in 1.5 hours away and not worth the drive yet.

I’ll think about it for a few more days and probably buy the program anyway.

Just thought I’d ask here first.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.
