Are you saying your not running a bash plate moto????
November 19, 2009 at 1:33 am #161755When I saw it he was running a Hyde robotek unit.
November 19, 2009 at 1:38 am #161756wonder what he meant by (bashie)???????
November 19, 2009 at 2:09 am #161758I think his hyde pipe guard is a pipe and bash plate in one so if he gets rid of it he’ll still need a bash guard.

You got it. If I change pipes the Hyde pipe guard won’t fit so when I remove it I’ll lose the bashie too as they’re integrated units. This sums up to the fact i’d need to get a separate bashie.
November 19, 2009 at 4:22 am #161791Why would you order and pay for Hyde then not use it?

Nice job there mate
Now comes the questions1)Do the bolts just clamp onto the pipe? Obviously there is a rubber gasket ie the pink material on yours
2)What sort of pressures are we looking at? Can’t be much or it would blow the ends off easy enough?
Cheers
MurphYes Murph the bolts clamp to the pipe you can wrap the pipe with some electrical tape so the bolts dont mark the pipe and it is a neoprene wetsuit type rubber gasket.
pressure is about 50 psi max
Ollie
With my setup it is a little different, same principal. mine seals with conveyor belt type rubber. i also used some pieces of cut up moto inner tube to aid the seal and grip on the pipe so it wouldnt mark. on OEM pipe u could do it with low pressure 20-30 psi.
Gnarlies are much stronger steel and take longer to repair. I used 60 psi and applied heat gradually. i also attached a guage via my bike pump and once the heating started the pressure rose to 80psi. (if sealed properly they dont loose pressure)
You also have to use a hammer on tough dings/creases and lightly tap the pipe. u should use a non blemishing soft edge hammer. With my “special home tools i used a regular claw hammer. It still turned out good. With a good finishing hammer you could get it looking even better.
Once again you have to be careful how you go about this with correct safety gear and clean the pipe thoroughly before u start. I also put some CO2 into it to neutralize one side of the fire triangle
November 19, 2009 at 9:42 am #161819Just out of interest,
how did the JSA & risk assessment score the zip tie holding the vice angled onto the homemade work bench?
Nice work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 19, 2009 at 11:54 am #161922Acceptable risk according to the matrix, RIPn I’d say it comes out at a d4, low probability and if it did happen would only take out his groin area, of np particular use at his age anyway…………..
Would make the surgeons job in the sex-change ward so much easier.
BTW I still think it’s an ace job.

If I do dent my pipe I’ll just take it down to Nathan’s place
November 19, 2009 at 10:29 pm #161988Is it all once piece Moto, can the bash plate side of it be separated from the pipe guard side of it?
It was interesting talking with Dickie the guy that assembles the new bikes at Sutto’s, he has tried them and seen them all and rates the hyde the best.

AnonymousIt is a great unit and if I remove some of the rivets I could probably use it as a bashie only. I won’t bother though I’ll just get a force bashie or similar if…more likely when, I get a new pipe.
