August 16, 2009 at 11:36 am #148537Just a couple of things from today, here is the video from today, it doesnt do justice to how steep and how big the steps are in this hill.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQDKcwHWMY0
The sad thing about all this is that the day before I spent sometime riding with Kylie (and Dan of course) working on a couple of things to help her enjoy her riding. She rode this hill like a champion, I have to say I was impressed by how well Kylie rides and the passion she has for her riding is well served. She listens and is very determined, also how tough she is riding the day out with a bloody sore looking knee.
Dan’s riding has also improved I set is suspension up on saturday night and I have to thank him for trusting me to do this without a little test ride.
We did 203kms today, my highlights for the ride
Eagle taking the soft option at the first sign of anything slightly hard, but not doing it again all day that was cool(until he dogged it again  )
Seeing Boony look like he was worn out, but come good as soon as we said suit up every time
The hamburger at lunch, how big was it
Everyone getting along at a pace I didnt think a group that large could travel
People traveling so far to ride
Chatting with Dan and enjoying the banter whilst riding
Saying good as gold 100 times a day and seeing Boulder laugh every time
The Bundy and the bench racing at Dan’s after the ride, thanks to all that wandered up and said bye
I hope both Novice and his wife Tracey are ok, both had falls after they joined us at the pines, Tracey’s partially nasty that had a few people worried, give us an update when you can please guys, I heard that Novice has gone for X rays??
There was someone that got upset a couple of times about the corner system its the same for everyone and the luck of the draw, if you dont want to stop and help dont bother coming if it is a problem
Thanks to the sweeps and all those that made the ride the good time it was
Damn I am sitting here thinking I should put my shoulder operation of because I want to ride Louee and the High Country and and and and and, what to do :blink:TB

AnonymousHere’s my ride report. Sorry it’s so long.
You know we have great neighbours. We pre-warned nearly all that were going to be affected by a heap of bikes leaving at 7:30 Sunday morning. They were all really good about it and said they would probably be up anyway.
TB held the ride briefing and we left pretty much on time. We only had to travel a few km’s on the road so I was surprised when I was cornerman that I had to wait for ages (this was before we got into the bush). I then found out that Boulder had gotten down the end of the street only to lose all power to his bike. That meant that Boulder was out and I was so disappointed about this because he actually came up and helped out with the pre-running so I knew he would be really upset about this.
Anyway off we went into the bush and the pace was really good. Most of this part of the ride was twin trail type of stuff. I was unlucky enough to catch a view of a really bad looking off by Demmis but he said he was OK so I kept going. There was a couple of hills to go up and all went well. Then we hit the hard one and I don’t need to go into this again because you’ve heard it before. We then rode out towards Wakefield and headed up towards the Gap.
Before we got there I was happy to find that Boulder had caught up with the group. He’d jiggled and WD’d and got it all going again. Good as gold Boulder. Also WikdBeemer I actually stopped to help you when you got your bike stuck along this section (even though I’m a girl) because I’d seen a heap of guys go past and not stop to help. I know I probably couldn’t do much but I couldn’t just go past without stopping. By the time I had parked my bike though some others had stopped so I started back up and took off.
From there it turned into more like single trail. I knew that I would be a little bit slower through this section so I pulled over in a section to let one bike pass me. The problem was that when I tried starting my bike again, it wouldn’t start so by then everyone had passed me and I was right at the back. This was good though because I knew that this meant that I wouldn’t hold anyone up.
We pulled up at Freemans Waterhole, headed up the hill and back into the bush and this part got a bit muddy. We then headed down a track which I didn’t think we were going to go down (and since confirmed that this was right) which involved going down a hill which claimed a couple of riders. Old Al came off right in front of me which didn’t do too much for my confidence because the last time that I went down it I fell off. The gods were shining on me and I got down unscathed. I then found out that Boony had an off here as well and did some minor damage to his bike. Poor Boony!
Anyway once we were through this section the trail opened up a bit and this was where I really started having fun. There were some great sections along here.
Out onto Mt Faulk Rd towards the Pines it was very dusty and it was so hard to see where you were going. I got Boony though because we were on a corner together and he mentioned that it was hard to see so when the sweep came along, I took off in front of him. Ha ha Boony, eat my dust!
At the Pines we met up with Novice, Mrs Novice and RacyTracy. After a short break we headed towards Laguna. Once again I really enjoyed this section and made a smart arse out of myself by overtaking everyone but you have to know I was really having fun.
We fueled at Laguna and then headed up through Yango towards Wollombi. Apparently on a hairpin not far off the main road, Mrs Novice had a really bad stack but to her credit she got back up and rode the rest of the day. This was really Mrs Novice’s first dirt bike ride and I am really impressed by how she rode.
During this section I really surprised DanD and TB by keeping up with them all the way to Wollombi. The worst thing was we were like 100mtrs from the pub and I had to be cornerman. I could literally see all the bikes lined up and watching everyone going to order their lunch. Anyway it wasn’t long before the sweep arrived and we all got to go to lunch.
I was famished by then so I ate nearly all of a huge hamburger. It was so yummy.
After lunch we drew the prize raffle which was won by Mudboy. Congratulations Mudboy, I hope you enjoy them. Sutto’s are the best!
We then headed via the tar to Millfield to fuel up and then down to Congewai. Boony and I carried on with some shenanigans along here and he got me by hitting the kill switch. I got him back though because he tried to overtake me on a corner and it all went to shit and he ended up in a ditch.
Up the hills we went and Mrs Novice was impressive. Racy went really well too and is just such a consistent rider. Good going Tracy!
We had to say goodbye to Racy, Novice, Mrs Novice and Lotsa at this stage because they were heading back to the pines.
We then went back along the road with some single trail along the way.
We ended up heading back the way we came and the dust combined with the position of the sun made it very challenging. We all stopped at Boony’s hill for everyone to ride back up it. Some of us took the easy option though because by that time I was buggered. My bike also wouldn’t start most of the time so I really cranky with it.
Anyway the rest of the ride was just as good and I have to apologise to BigT for roosting him in a big way. I got stuck in a muddy ditch and he got off his bike to help me but I had gotten off the bike and by rocking it back and forth with throttle I got it through. BigT just happened to be behind me when this happened. Oops.
We came out of the bush at Killingworth and TB calls me over. He gets off his bike and then holds it so I can hop on. Although I was nervous about it I wasn’t going to give up the opportunity to have a go. So we head back home along the road and I got stuck behind this car but let’s just say I found a totally legal way around it.
I couldn’t find a speedo on his bike but I was flying. I backed off at the top of Rhonda Road and TB flew past me on my 250. He was pinning it.
He then let me overtake him and I led the way home. I had so much fun.
A couple of the guys came up for a beer before they left for the day which was a great way to end the day.
I have already thanked TB and DanD for organizing the ride and doing so many pre-runs.
I need to thank Champo for sweeping the first half of the day and Bob and BigT for the second half.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me out. I needed it.
But more importantly I have to thank TB for his coaching session with me on Saturday. We spent a few hours just going through some important techniques that I made sure I put into practice today. I am sure that if I hadn’t of gone through this I would have struggled a heap more today.
I’ll make sure I keep practicing.

August 16, 2009 at 9:58 pm #148547Just a short note regarding Sunday’s route change after the pub, we didnt originally plan to ride to Millfield via the Bitumen, but due to some unforeseen circumstances that had come up we decided that it would be best for the group as a whole and given that some people had a distance to travel it had a lot to do with them and their travel requirements. I am sure that everyone understands this and would think it through before having a mumble
The section of bitumen to get to the first fuel stop is unavoidable due to private property and we needed fuel

August 16, 2009 at 10:21 pm #148469Thanks to everyone that turned up and made this such a great ride, some travelled further than others and made a big effort for a one day ride.
Thanks also to TB and Dan for putting all those great trails together, there was a lot of work that went into this ride and it paid off with 30 riders moving along at a good pace all day.
It was good to meet some new Old Bulls and put some faces to names. We had a top crew on this ride with everyone willing to stop and help out along the way and the corner man never failed once, no DNF’s and lots of laughs!! It does’nt get much better than that. Looking forward to riding with you guys again soon. Thanks Dan and Kylie for your hospitality, that cold beer at the end of the day was just the ticket and a great end to a really top day.
August 16, 2009 at 11:47 pm #148558Where do I start, A big thank you to the eagle clan for putting me up for the night, as this made the trip do able for me.
What a great ride, it had everything,,(what are the rut thingies people LOL)
Saturday saw me arrive 3ish to beagle holding a cold beer and an open gate,
Not long after, I finally got to put a face to the name trailboss, this bloke turns up with DanD on the back of some poor little road bike, KylieD followed them on the project DRZ and was cacking herself at the 2 hooligans she followed over there. Funniest thing I’ve seen for a while, except for my hill riding.
They didn’t stay long (something about going to the top pub to talk the bikies into buying scorpions.)
Wasn’t long after that and Chris turns up?
We had a few drinkies whilst we done the wheel bearings on Chris’s trailer.
Sunday morning saw the eagle on cooking duties; bacon and egg roles at 6.30 were just what the doctor ordered.
We rode from the eagle nest over to the start point for the ride, I caught up with mud boy and Harvey then I went and met the rest of the old bulls on the ride. I apologize to all I didn’t get to say cya to but I needed to get on the road early.
The trails were very different to what I was used to riding and the ruts did catch me out and kept me on my toes. How about that dust, I went past a corner and thought there should be 2 corner people there as someone could get lost, They where there I just couldn’t see them through the dust.
The singles were brilliant, bit rutty but brilliant and the twins where good as well.
The trip from the pines to Laguna was a ball, the stand up drifting the narny through the corners was a ball. I got to meet racy Tracy although it was at 75kph and I was waving like a mad man as I went past, sorry racy.
The moment that will stick in my mind for a fair while is the vision of a fellow rider lying motionless between 2 REALLY big rocks after they had over shot a corner, you all know that sick in the bottom of your gut feeling? it was Mrs. novice ,,thank god she came out of it pretty well, although you do have to lay there longer so we can get photos LOL.
The pub was brilliant and then off to another servo owner and blow their mind out with 30 bikes wanting fuel.
The ride back to the dirt was going all peacefully until Kylie must have decided she was bored, then it was on, she had a shot at my kill switch but missed, I got hers then Pep got mine ,I was having a ball. We hit the dirt and I went stupid, best speedway slide into a table drain you will ever see. More of the dust and singles on the way back to the start point, I left the ride at Freemans I think and had to drag eagle and Chris with me.
Thanks to TB DanD for the ride it was sweet.
