Well here in the north west I couldn’t tell you the last time it rained and its showing, the place is suffering !

Yesterday at the a round of the sprint series at uralla it was mentioned at the end of the day if we don’t get rain before the next round it will be cancelled ! I’ve herd of races been cancelled due to rain but now the dry … if anyone knows a rain dance start cranking it !

How’s the dry effecting everyone else ?

Yeah, sucks. At Wellington near Dubbo we have had more rain than most areas around, but it is still looking bloody awful. The worst part is the negative affect on people’s morale, there’s nothing quite like a bunch of depressed farmers!

your spot on ecs-man im only just up the road from you , and iv notice the morale too, the last lot of rain we got made no incress in the dams[ 2inches of rain], we had the dryest month for 6yrs, problem is we would be better of getn rain spread over aperiod of time and give it time to soak in and keep moisture in the ground instead of the huge down pours that last 12hr 3 or 4 times a yr

We are just seeing the tip of the ice berg as far as “the dry” goes.
The cattle market is currently in free fall.I’m hearing chilling stories in our indusrtry at the moment (i’m a livestock agent).
Farnorth QLD,westren Qld and the N.T. are in big trouble. They recieved buggerall rain in the wet season.
Mass scale off loading of cattle is putting huge pressure on the people living on the land and anyone involved in the Australian agricultural sector.Feed cut out along time ago and the water is just about gone in many places. The Aussie dollar and the live export debacle has buggered the return at the farm gate in the top end.
Over the last few years Australia has seen year after year of good seasons, cattle numbers have grown along with the seasons.
Now we are heading into winter with a forescast for the next month of NO rain at all.
Stories are floating about how there are not enough trucks in Qld to shift the cattle.
Trucking companies are being approached in NSW to head North to shift cattle. They are being knocked back because it has turned so dry here and they are flat out anyway.Properties in the top end and Qld are going to see some serious on farm stock deaths.Alot of the stock are already too poor to travel.
Currently, the WHOLE of Australia, every state is on borderline drought (if not allready in it) bar some coastal areas.
I sold livestock for clients today, sheep, lambs and cattle. The prices recieved were horrific…but they are going to get worse.Costs are far outweighing returns.
Depression and people walking off the land are going to the topics on the table this year.
I don’t want to be sounding negative…but this is the stark reality at the moment.
The only thing that is going to fix it is rain…and shit loads of it. :(

Sobering news BOLLOCKS,I for one being a city slicker was ignorant of the plight of the people on the land in regard to the lack of rain at the moment.
Its not until prices rise at the cash register do the majority of us hear in the city give our food producers much of a thought something we should not be proud of.
Heres hoping you all out there get the rain you need and if that does not come ,then the support to get through tough times ;)

    It’s f$&@&$ but

Harden up its happened before and it will happen again

Just ride with people slower than you so u don’t have to eat too much dust………………..kids don’t care too much about dust

   harden up princesses!

i, in a nutshell, am totally against live export. it should be banned outright!
thats my opinion and i pay taxes for it!

why cant we keep the food we have to feed us, i ask???

well generally, because most of it is inferior and we wouldnt eat it!
so they sell it overseas… to the poorer countries who cant get meat at all, let alone the quality we expect on our plates at home.
then they (inhumanely) kill the beast, while they praise Allah and face the sun with their tongue facing north and its all better…fuck me!!!

why do the farmers do it if its not for a fast buck, coz exporters can get better money for shit meat…. basically!

i see the export trade is much like the import/buy australian arguement with bike parts.
the aussie have had it too good for too long and wont lower their crap for the foriegn markets…
feeding us with the “help an aussie, buy australian” crap.

sorry, that excuse is running thin, not just with me but most of the free world too….

they might well be an aussie but they are greedy (like the bike shops) and definately dont help the economy in doing that.

when it comes to the crunch, the indo’s and the rest of the world will just buy it elsewhere if they get a chance and as a result, the aussie sellers are in a panic. why do you think it is propped up by the government…for fun???? (just like our car industry…and too many other things to mention in a drunken rant!)

it goes hand in hand with the “we only sell to companies that treat the cattle humanely” shit that the sellers and the Gov were dribbling not so long ago….

they dont really give a rats right testicle about how the poor animal is treated.

but we hear…….oh, it will hurt the economy….

yes it will, coz thats the way it goes… and always has for years gone.

the world is a new place and is always changing, faster every day. the sooner we stop listening to the ‘few’ and see through the fog of this corporate sense of whats right for the “shareholder”, the better.

like Bob says, its a drought, its been before and it will indefinately come again!

to all you cattle/vege/grain farmers, harden up!

    you gamble for a living.
you make a packet when you win…

so dont whinge when you lose!

the worlds f%$ked, just live with it….

or you will die

Harsh words Menace,do you make a habbit of kicking people when there down.

Whether or not you agree with live export or not is irrelevant as the jist of the post is about the human suffering and hardship.

I don’t think its wrong to wish for a bit of rain in order to relieve the associated stresses that go hand in hand with drought.Your right its happened before it will happen again and the farmers do choose that lifestyle and roll the dice.

But here in this country be it drought, flood or bushfires we should support each other when the !@#$ hits the fan and leave the political and ethical debate for brighter times

    Ease up guys :( :( :( :( :pinch:
I started spending more time here cause on other forums the seemed to be too many young punks taking a swipe at each other at every opportunity. OBT was a breathe of fresh air, mature, like minded, dirt bike riders organizing rides and enjoying a bit of fun and frivolity.

Getting into each other is not the OBT way in my opinion.

Whether for or against live exports, we all do what we do to make a living and if we didn’t need the money we would just go riding :)

If the guys on the land are doing it tough, not only is it no good for our dirt bike riding, farm owning brothers, but its no good for any of us.
Exports are bringing cash into Oz which eventually benefits all of us.

Us city slickers dont wanna run out of water either, we wouldn’t be able to have a shower and smell pretty for our well paying jobs that fund our dirt bike activities :woohoo:

    Go easy huh??????????
So LETS GO RIDING and prey for some rain to keep the dust down :woohoo:

My fault.i deviated from the topic.rookie started this thread in regards to the amount of dust that is out there and the effect it is having on us as riders ;)
Bloody stuff is like talcum powder,i can understand why they may cancel events…the stuff just sits in the air :pinch:
Only option is to lead a ride :P

No fault here but it is the reason we avoid political debate or government policy on OBT.
Everyone does a good job keeping civil until politics creeps in so please refrain.
