September 17, 2009 at 4:10 am #97188OK folks, I got home today and decided that the DRZ needed a run around the block after sitting there for 9 weeks. Went out and much to my disgust I had forgotten to turn the fuel off much less drain the carby as I had meant to do. Started ok, little bit of smoke but nothing major so off I go around the block and suddenly she just died as I was accelerating. Pulled over had a couple of goes getting her started when I spotted all the fuel running out of the overflow/breather hoses underneath. So what do we think, me?, I just ride ’em but am thinking maybe just a blocked jet or stuck float or is it likely to be something more drastic like a perished seal? September 17, 2009 at 4:19 am #153172Something is blocked there Jeffro.
Plenty of fuel in the tank?
First I would drain the bowl the big nut at the bottom will do that, then check all those vent tubes are clear of obstruction and kinks.
Have you got a compressor? Next guess would blocked jets or sticky float.September 17, 2009 at 4:21 am #153173Jeffro Id say it was just a stuck needle jet. Just give her a few sharp raps with the handle of a hammer, should free it up,if not it may need a disassemble of the carb. The fuel taps on the RMX and more than likely the DRZ are notorious for fuel leakage, I actually pull the fuel supply line off to the carb and block it up with a plug until the next time I have to take it out. Otherwise the crankcase fills with fuel. Ollie September 17, 2009 at 4:38 am #153174g’day jeffro i like the idea of tapping it with a hammer, stick etc, it’s worked for me a couple of times over the years. me oldman loved the hammer. it was always one of two things if me bike was’nt running he’d reckon.
 1. “give the carby a hit with a hammer” or
 2. “put a plug it it that’ll fix it”it worked most of the time too and if it did’nt there was always “take it next door and get oldmate to have a look cause i’m goin to the pub” hope that helps mate…remember ya always have beer and think about a bit more. dusty September 17, 2009 at 4:44 am #153178Yeh Thanks guys, I will have a go at the tap and try. One of my mates who is very mechanically minded and good with carbies always as beer in the fridge as well, so if the tapping doesn’t work i’ll take it to old mate and have a beer. September 17, 2009 at 4:44 am #153179+1 on the stuck needle jet. September 17, 2009 at 4:55 am #153180Sometimes in life the simplest things are the best, a few taps and away she went and with fuel running out underneath, a few more taps and no leaks. Just as well too, that is pretty clos to my mechanical limits. September 17, 2009 at 4:57 am #153181Sometimes we just get lucky ay?? Good one Jeffro. September 17, 2009 at 5:15 am #153182Good one Jeffro
We could do with a decent hammer man at work occasionally.
What are you like with a 14 pounder??
Glad she is up and going again mate
 Cheers :cheer:

BC September 17, 2009 at 7:07 am #153201:laugh:  listen to us, we are all old school…. “hit it bloody thing with a hammer” (handle end)   that was my first thought too
