October 6, 2009 at 8:27 pm #155485I with you Boony, the DRZ is a great bike if you dont mind the weight.
When I fitted the StainTune header pipe to mine it gave a good boost to bottom – mid range power because it is a bigger diameter than the stock header.
Look into doing the whole exhaust if you can.October 6, 2009 at 9:39 pm #155481

That’s a great post Mal, I’m up for a laugh as much as the next guy but this ‘man love’ thing won’t go away! I might start deleting posts with it in
I reckon spend whatever money you want on whatever makes you happy, even if it is a DRZ
That said, TB was just providing advice and that’s what the forum is about

October 6, 2009 at 10:01 pm #155490Hey Fark the lot of you
I was offering some advice as his post said he wanted to pass 450’s and Kato’s in his original post
I offered my help with obtaining parts and gear if he wanted because I am a nice guy
I have done many a mile on a DR and have set one up for racing and the project bike, worked on them re-jetted the set suspension up advised people that they are the bike to buy for them and done 2 day rides on them
And as far as the man love thing goes if you dont like it tough, do you think I like the stupid posts with only FARKING      instead of some bloody writing! Do you thinking I like all the other things that piss me off, but I dont whine about it now piss off and have a nice day
Man love ya all

have a cry fatty
boondog go on a diet that will lose more weight then you will cut of the DR and hold the throttle on longer you will go fasterOctober 6, 2009 at 10:32 pm #155494Be very careful Squirrel this is your only warning here
October 6, 2009 at 10:41 pm #155495I understand the “silk purse from a sows’ ear” emotion Boony, there was a DR400 from the old thumpernats on ebay a while back was ridden by some big name and only fetched a few bucks, woulda been good for parts.
What I’m getting at is there has been heaps of DRZs’ “bombed” and maybe there are some parts out there waiting to be bought …Cheap.Good luck with it, I’m a bit like TB though is much easier to change a light bikes power characteristics than to make a heavy bike light.

I like the fact i can commute on the old girl daily if i need to considering how far away from town I live. I am hearing everyone about a lighter/faster bike but it the DRZ for me at the moment..BCOctober 7, 2009 at 12:10 am #155499Good onya Boony!
Do what makes you happy and spend up on that Banana if you plan to keep here for a while.
Sounds like you love that bike yellow girl.My tip to save weight is to only go as far as reserve will take you then walk. The bike handles much better without a full tank and you lose a lot of weight walking home
October 7, 2009 at 12:58 am #155503Good onya Boony! The ol’ banana will benefit from some weight saving, and taking the headlight off is a good start, making the bars easier to swing and reducing the weight up high a bit.
As much as there is a limit to what you can achieve with a DRZ, you know what you expect (which is not a miracle, just a noticeable difference) and I think you are on the right track. Wouldn’t worry about the exhaust myself, but tis up to you.
Now, where’s the piccies mate!!??!!
October 7, 2009 at 2:00 am #155507Just keep pulling shit off Boony and she’ll feel like a 125MXer in no time.
Here’s my progress so far, havn’t taken her for a test ride yet but with the weight removed and the open pipe she should handle and sound sweet.
October 7, 2009 at 3:47 am #155516thats a bit drastic by what ever floats ya boat.
have you got your rear spring done yet?
October 7, 2009 at 4:46 am #155519I once saved 20 kilos off a gsxr by replacing the twin walled, twin mufflered, catchcan exhaust with a 4 kilo handbuilt one, $900 for 6 hp , more torque and 20 kilos was a bargain, but now they come ex-factory like it.
