I always thought kerb weight was fueled and ready to go.

My 2 stroke is 120kg so if you loose a few kg should narrow the gap down a bit closer to current 4 strokes.

Good to have a project on the go any way i might have a look at what others weigh in at.

    cheers

using some sheep scales we once had a guessing comp at a trials meet. i think my tm 2t weighed about 106 (with fuel). a bmw gs1150 weighed almost 300kg. impressivly a yz250f weighed about 100kg.

I spotted in Trailzone mag this morning that the KTM 300, 450 and 530 all weigh the same at I think it was 109.5kg, that was according the the KTM advert, seems a bit odd to me.

Boony “kerb” weight means riding weight on the road with all gear and fluids….

Or it could mean if you drop it, it is easier to lift the kerb up than the bike..

I had a roadie that weighed less than that, so i can see why you need it to shed a few kilos’

Well well now we seem to be all on the same channel???????
the weight is the price you pay for a good cheap reliable bike with enough power to enjoy in the bush an I`m just shedding a kilo or to if I can.that road bike would have been dangerous on a windy day at 100kph

The 300 is 103.1Kg and the 450/530 are around 113.9Kg, all without fuel.

Boony we’ve been through this little excercise before, the DRZ is never 119Kg’s!!! It’s 138Kg.

For further info. the KTM 250 SX-F is only 98Kg, pretty impressive. All weights taken from manufacturers respective websites and are based on the latest models.

That makes you DRZ 35Kg heavier than a KTM 300  More than 30% of the KTM’s weight again! I think the KTM weigh pretty much the same as other bikes of the same ilk….

What does the term kerb weight mean, what is the katos kerb weight?IE: 103.1 without fuel and a 9.5litre fuel tank which when full should take the total wieght of the 2010.300 to approx 112kg. is that the kerb weight of the KTM?
If so that makes the DRZ 26kg heavier  no wonder I`m` trying to shed a few kgs of it..having said that we have to remember the DRZ is not a race bike with rego like all the other bikes around.

What’s this 100kph nancy-boy stuff, rgv250, rz350 50-75 hp pocket rocketships to 200 and yes a side wind did worry them, but probably not much more than the GSXR11.

My YZ is 105 wringing wet kerbside with blinkers and headlight, I did notice the difference to Menaces 300 back to back, which felt heavier, and carried it’s weight differently.

yeah, i reckon your about right master blue, the yz would be about 105kg. my bike is 103kg dry WITH an electric leg and it has an 11.5L tank, from factory, i believe.

so lets say my 300 is about 114kg tops. its light as a feather to me.
riding up north has shown me its single track capabilities and its great.

down home though, there is a fair bit more open stuff (which i love just as much…or more) and it eats it up……and spits it out too   at whoever is behind me

and yes, it is a heaps different bike than the boondogs DRZ too. to me its the best of both worlds.

i can get 140km from a tank on an easy ride
and 125km going as hard as i dare. (pretty similar really) :P

it is a user friendly bike, with the torque of a small 4 stroke a

but when required, it barks hard, and the scream of a race 2 stroke is just a blip of the clutch away.

it is still on its first spark plug since it got re-jetted…..

and believe it or not, even mr blue said ” pds has changed since 2007ish, its heaps better”. i dont know, as ive never ridden a pre 2007 kato but i will take those words to the grave.

and with my capabilities, if the PDS bites me, its my fault for putting the bike up to the obstacle or whatever, without knowing how to get out of the given situation.

so boony, do what you need to do dude, if it feels better, go with it. as you have said mate, you have plenty of power, so try making the suzi more user friendly. make it lighter, play with your bar heights, get some pivot pegs, hell if you want, get an even softer seat :P (if possible)

or go get a newer (louder) pipe. it will make a mental difference to you, your bike and your riding style. find a sound you like and enjoy the note ;)

personally, i like to hear the sound of my tyres gripping the dirt when braking and the ding-ding-scream of the expansion chamber when hitting the gas.

as much as it hurts to say….”i couldnt ride a drz to its full capability”….or any bike for that matter.

we do it for fun, remember….. :)

PS……ive read this whole thread and i cant see any man love, only brotherly love and expressions of feelings for the passion of riding…whats wrong with that……

are people looking that deeply into it???

    #155493

Can i feel a man hug coming on here TB? :)
