putting out a few thoughts on where the new DRZ`er should spend their hard-earned and get bang for buck.
following asumes bike is standard when picked up.
. remove restrictors – nil cost
. remove excess plastic and place in a box to forget about, include the rear taillight assembly
. buy a smaller profile taillight/plate holder- some options here , price depends on material used, plastic or aluminium or even stainless.
. buy some smaller blinkers-again range of options here but buy for front and rear – I recommend cheap ones as they get broken often
    . buy hand guards,with aluminium re-enforcement.”barkbusters”
. buy new hand grips- stock ones are crap.
. buy a set of bars- plenty of options here , but any thing better than stock steel ones.
. if you tall, buy a set of bar risers- money well spent.

I would recommend buying bars, risers, grips and barkbusters at same time as bike shop should sell gear that will mate up first time and THis is probably most noticable improvement to the bike`s feel in the initial stages.
    . more money- more improvements…
. look at bike gearing- dropping down one tooth on front cog gives good results in bush riding for little outlay- $20-25 .
    . bash plate- good insurance
. tyres to suit your riding area + heavy duty tubes!
    still got money in wallet…
. polisport or similar headlight- replace the heavy stock item
. aftermarket exhaust- save weight, slight power gain

After this suspension would be next area to look at.
These are just my personal thoughts, any other ideas welcome as I`m always looking to get a little more out the bike for not much coin.

DRZ – they just keep goin

I would strongly recommend rad gaurds, case savers and a manual cam chain tensioner.
    good insurance for the buck.

I still say that the best set up for a DRZ owner is to trade it on a KTM:laugh:

Now that is harsh RAT. I was going to say the same thing about going BLUE but I thought it more appropriate to leave this educational thread alone. FEZ.

If you have the funds you could do this.

Hey rat ( blowing raseberry) bite me

all mod explained have been done to the boon mobile (except new bars) but there now needed

The darn thing is still way to top heavy but as stated the thing just keeps going. we DRZ riders have to appreciate that they are not like them there high reving 4 strokes on the market at the moment (there better)

honestly all mentioned mods have helped but you can add #26 fork springs, replace rear spring, all up decent mods that I have seen on DRZ suspension costs about $900.00.

the best mods are what was first mentioned and get decent rubber and ride the thing within its limits.

I agree 100% with what Boulder has said.I probably would also consider changing the speedo assembly for something a little less pricier to replace and the front suspension needs to be stiffened up.Also a JD jet kit makes a difference IMHO

yeh mate you posted as I was writing:laugh: The jetting kit probably doesnt give it more power,it just makes it easier to start and the power is a lot more responsive. Also improves fuel consumption. During winter the engines of your bike will run leaner due to more air being available. so you use the blue tipped JD needle,In summer or on very high altitude there is less air available and the bike will run rich, you then use the alternate red tipped needle. Well worth the Coin, also a exteranal fuel mixture screw makes it easier to set it up just NOICE;)
