Quote:So whats yor verdict on the Tenere Jeffro from a pillion veiwWouldn’t that have been a sight heading down the highway.!!! The Tenere certainly would have gotten a work out with those two on it.
June 13, 2010 at 9:05 am #181678The Tenere came through unlike others Looselink
That may have been a sight Mick yes, it was a sight that have said “there are two guys making the end of their ride with grit and determination, not just abandoning their co riders in the middle of no where and running of and leaving them to break down in the middle of no where, friends looking after friends doing what they said they would”
And dont use Moose as a scape goat again
Now Mick if you can get on with a decent ride report and leave everybody elses alone I will post the pictures you took which are good

The rest of us poor simpletons that have been stuck home over the weekend need a fix
June 13, 2010 at 10:14 am #181679So I travelled up with Moose on the friday, actually Moose was coming here to pick the NX up for Mick as he purchased it from me. I asked Moose if the Tenere and I could hitch a ride he said yes, so I said can the Tenere go on the tray and the NX go on the trailer cause it doesnt matter if it falls off
So Moose turned up we juggled bikes etc and got out of the way and set sail its all good. We had a pretty good run and got up to the Mayors, which was good because rider X was there to help us unload the Tenere of the tray of the Volkswagen
Down in the shed and I started fitting the new GPS to the Tenere.
Mick started fitting my big tank to his bike which he soon gave up on. The shed party was in full swing as per normal they came and went. Yes I said the Tenere was made in France once or twice but I am sure it was only once to each person that turned up, Micks just a eaves dropping busy body
XRtrailhack fronted to prove he is real
Bollocks turned up with his family a sleep in the car drunk a quick Bundy and bolted
The NX under went the offical hand over, and I sold the tank bag to Mick as well as it doesnt fit the Tenere. Mick didnt what to fit the bars he had for it and yet he still whinged the next day they are to low to stand
So one of my final acts in the shed was to leave my grip warmers on
, yes batt flattery in the morning. But hey if I didnt have that to do I would have only been doing something for Mick
We went and fueled stopped for a group shot early cause well I suspected Mick was going to do an Eagle  Nah sorry Eagle he didnt make halfway *
Of we went, I hear Mick checking something with Moose at a intersection out of town and find out he is going to make a change to the route. Of we go thru some nice dirt roads, then some over grown tracks and some rougher sections. Quickly I realise I have a lot to learn in the adventure bike world as I have loaded the top bag way to heavy and its way back and to heavy and acts as a big pendulum counter swinging every movement I make
The too soft rear suspension is sagging and taking weight of the front end causing the front end to run wide all the time. But I was still managing a good pace. We did a couple of small creek crossings and I passed Mick on a trail to give it the beans for a bit. Nice roost Mick reckons.
I watched Jeffro near flip the banana  we rode on until we had a break at this creek crossingJeffro showing some style
Moose feet up and dry
Boulder, good as gold
Me all legs  You can see the big bag up the back heavy and high causing my drama
We continued on for a while, there was a discussion regarding an intersection through an area that reminded me of the VIC high country. My rear bag fell of and we stopped at an intersection again sorting directions as there was maps and GPS’s and Mick and Moose’s trying to remember as it had been a long time since both had been up here.
From here we ran onto the oxley hwy thru some spectacular country dirt and bitumen sections. Again I stretched the Tenere’s legs thru the dirt sections and ran out to the Hwy with Jeffro chasing
From there to Gingers creek for brunch, I was cruising along at the speed limit when Moose came up and we continued at a better speed limit until I let him go as the knobbies started to scare me at the safe speed limits we did.
Once at Gingers we had a laugh and waited for the others and enjoyed a great breakfast.
More to come later.
* something may have been written to get a bite as if he hasnt already today
June 13, 2010 at 9:33 pm #181684No bite here just a ride report as I saw it.
Friday arvo, I got Lessa to run me out to Mooses place to pick up his XR so as I could take it back to my shed and fit the big tank to it. Old Burple hadn’t been started since the Sofala ride so she took a bit of coaxing to start. She eventually fired after about 10 kicks and I headed to my place, it soon came apparent old Burple hadn’t been straightened up after Moose binned her in the causeway at the Sofala ride either, as she seemed to be crabbing a bit.
Once I got the her home I went straight into swapping tanks, while I was doing that RiderX turned up, closely followed by Moose and TB. WE unloaded the NX and the Tenere plus a whole heap of other stuff which included all but a spare NX in Boxes.
A few drinks were consumed while old Burple was getting sorted and TB fitted the GPS to the Tenere. Gasit turned up for a drink and a yarn too, it wasn’t long after that when Jeffro rolled down the driveway on the DRZ after riding up from his place, it had already been a big day for him after flying from Melbourne in the morning.
XRTrailhack turned up not long after that, I organised with RiderX and Tripper for them to show XRTRAILHACK around Bago the next morning (he had a big day from what I hear). Later in the evening when festivities where in full swing, TB was in fine form and he and I were arguing about what ever topic came to mind, Bollocks turns up for a drink after driving from Tamworth with his family, who were still asleep in the car out he front of my place (That was brave). Bollocks had a quick yarn, slammed down a rum and was gone again. In the end it was just me, Jeffro, TB and XRTRAILHACK left in the shed bullshitting until 11pm when we called it quits and TB and I staggered up to the house.WE had a bit of a sleep in, to nearly 7am and we were sitting on the varandah having a coffee when, to our disbelief Boulder came rolling down my driveway after riding all the way from Berowra. How hardcore is that!!!!!! I made him a well deserved coffee and that is when Jeffro and Moose turned up, we then went to the shed to kit up and that is when TB realised the Tenere had a flat battery. After dicking around with my “cheap” jumper leads, the boys managed to get the Tenere to go after jump starting it from my Patrol.
WE headed off and got some fuel and had a quick photo shot at the Timbertown log before heading west on the Oxley Highway. About 5km west of Wauchope we turned into Rosewood rd, that is when Moose suddenly found out that Burple handles a whole heap different with a 24 liter fuel tank full to the brim and he near ran off the road trying to swing her into the corner!! We headed off to Beechwood, after a quick discussion Moose and I decided to change to proposed route as the map TB had suggested we went through Bellangry but Moose and I knew a far better route through Pappinbarra which is a bit more of a challenge with a couple of creek crossings and better scenery.
It was along North arm road that I had to come to terms with how the NX didn’t handle like my XR and no doubt I was setting a “Miss Daisy” pace as I led the boys through the frosty valleys and ice cold creek crossings before we made our way up onto the range and along Hastings Forest way, which leads onto Willi Willi national park and then further onto Werrikimbe National park. We cruised on through the bush and it soon became evident that we were far up into the hills when the Vegetation change to that of snow country and the temperature had dropped way down into single figures and I was wishing that I had worn something warmer other than MX gloves.
WE continued along through Kangaroo Valley, which was very scenic and a great ride before we met the Oxley Highway about 30km west of Gingers Creek roadhouse. Once we hit the tar, Moose wound on the throttle of Old Burple and he threw out the gauntlet and there was no catching him, as TB said Moose and Old Burple own the Mountain. I tried staying with him for a while but as we came down Plum Tree hill I saw the ice laying around the place, even on the road, so I chickened out and let him go.
Once we got to Gingers creek I was surprised to see it deserted of any customers, only to find out the highway was blocked to the east by a truck rollover. The highway reopened and the traffic began to roar past again while we had something to eat. The bike traffic on this road on any weekend is amazing. We topped up our tanks and head off towards Stockyard Crek rest area where we turned off the highway again. At Stockyard creek an organised ride from Trailmates were stopped there, we stopped for a minute while we all introduced ourselves to Huskybloke who was riding with them. We hit the bush again and cruised along Knodingbull road headed towards Mt George, Knodingbull was in great condition and by then I had come to terms with the NX, so I let her have her head and I set a cracking pace for the 50 km length of the road, not stopping until we got to mt George, which is about 70kms from Gloucester. We pulled up for a yarn in front of the general store, it was hear that we decided it may be best if Moose and I peeled off and went our own way through Wingham, as going to Gloucester would mean we would be getting home in the dark. Old Burples headlight sort of points way up into the trees on the right side of the road since Moose binned her at Sofala, which would have made the run up the Comboyne mountain in the dark a real challenge.
So our goodbyes were said and we were off towards Wingham, I topped up the NX with fuel at Wingham and we headed up the hill to my hometown of Comboyne. Both Moose and myself know the roads well in this area and we peddled along at a great pace.As we cruised through Comboyne, I couldn’t believe my eyes when we met two dudes on NX650’s. You don’t see that every day, especially when you are riding one yourself. WE stopped at the Comboyne RSL and had a schooner before setting a red hot pace down the Mountain to Wauchope, where we had a few long necks of Tooheys in my shed to finish off what was a great day. Moose and I ended up doing 337kms for the day, in that time we saw some great country, some of it I hadn’t seen before, rode some great firetrails, rode half of the Famous Oxley Highway bendy bits, had a good feed at Gingers creek, rode across the top of the Cells river area, enjoyed the company of our ride buddies and generally had a great day out on our bikes.
Moose summed it up perfectly in my shed on our return, when he said “ we certainly live in a great part of the world, cheers”
