great report mick, them roads through that knodingbull area are sweet arent they

I love that area and seeing I had only done the Knodingbull run two weeks earlier, I was able to set a cracking pace through there as I remembered the road well. I couldn’t believe the amount of single trails I spotted along the way, considering how remote the area is.

After a great feed at Gingers Creek I discovered time was in fact getting away and we needed to push on, it was lucky we did because later that evening it really paid of ;)

Fueled and on our way I quickly became lost normally I am really good with directions but was struggling here  We turned of the Oxley Hwy about 3 kays from Gingers Creek and there was a large group of bike there some with Trailmate stickers and yeah lo and behold Husky bloke sings out “you TB?” So a quick hello and away we went. Micks coffee had helped him and he was setting a cracking pace on the ol girl and it had smoothed up a bit. I was struggling with the front end. We seemed to run along the tops of the ridges for ages with a beautiful view to be grabbed if you stole a look at times. We came to one intersection and we had a discussion regarding directions and we headed for Mt George, again Mick was setting a flying and I was enjoying seeing the NX being used as it is a great bike. I had sort of adapted a style that had me and the Tenere traveling better Jeffro said  I pulled Mick up for a breather as he was in the zone and we hadn’t had a break for a long time but we decided as we weren’t far from Mt George we would stop there.

Well Mt George was that a thriving metropolitan NOT  We parked in the main drag actually the whole town was a drag :P

Moose pointed out his headlight drama and with dark coming they needed to get going. We dicked around with directions maps technology and some rough directions from Moose and we left Mt George. Not far down the road I pulled up and said to Jeffro would you like a ride of the Tenere. Now most people sort of go yeah ok in a casual sort or way to not act to keen, but not Jeffro he almost knocked me down getting on I only just had time to yell as he rode of I wanted it back before he got home

I jumped on the hard narrow plank of a thing Suzuki call a seat and took of, man its geared low and rev’s the DR to do 100. I found myself sitting on 92 because I didnt want to rev it anymore :P and was shocked later when Jefrro said he was sitting on 110 + on the way to Micks, good things those DR’s but thats no secret.

As soon as I rode of on the DR I noticed the rear wheel seemed to have a wobble which I put down to either a buckled rim or a tyre not beaded properly. About 10kms later we came to the intersection Moose had told us about and turned right Jeffro was back on the DR and all was sweet (for now)

We came to a little town and there was a optional direction that we couldnt decide and our tour guides hadnt mentioned but we sorted it and left town. I stopped at the out going 100 kay signs to tell Jeffro something and he said “look at this” Showing of his wobbling back wheel. Judging by how quickly it had come started and got as bad as it did there was no way it would go far. It was 30+ something kays to Gloucester so we decided to limp to Gloucester and I would race ahead and see what was open. I got to about 7 kays from Gloucester and had phone range so I rang a mate there and he said there is no hope of getting anything here :(

I waited on the side of the road and when Jeffro and Boulder turned up the wheel was real bad (photos he posted earlier in this thread show how bad and the damage its done :( )and the decision was made to go the a farm leave the bike I would double Jeffro and he would come back the next day in the ute and get it.

Once done I had my bitch on the back we left stopped at Stroud for a burger it was getting cooler we carried on to the Raymond Terrence turn off where I sent Boulder on home. I dropped Jeffro of and added some extra layers of clothing and sooted home getting there just after 8.30pm

Cheers for the lead Mick, Moose for the directions (with Mick) and the ride up the Wauchope, Jeffro for the ride and Boulder for being a tough old bugger

Well a big weekend of riding, started friday morning for me. On the road from Morwell in Victoria to the airport at 7.30, 2.5 hours in the car, and hour sitting around the airport, 1.5 hours sitting on the plane then on the bike by 3.15 for the trip to Wauchope.

Left home and had to go in the opposite direction to get fuel and on a last minute whim, stopped in home for 1 more layer of clothing for the ride. Great decision!
Road straight through to the Taree sevice centre for fuel and food about 5.30,headed off again and the sun was gone by now and the temperature dropped dramatically as I crossed the Manning river.
Turned off on Bago road heading feeling good knowing I was almost there just cruising along through the lightly winding road when I started to recognise some parts and looking around when I came on a tight bend. Hard on the brakes and and a bit of heavy breathing caused the visor to fog over which onloy added to the excitement.

Got to the hotel, checked in, dumped some gear then off to Mick’s via the botle shop. Turned up and TB and Mick were at it like always. Changed the rear brake pads on the DRZ as Mick had organised a set for me (thanks mick)with some help from Connor and into the beers and bulshit with the guys. Had a good night with a few drinks a laughs. I was the toast of the shed with my huge effort to ride all the way on the DR,,,,,,,,,,, until Boulder weighed in and trumped me by riding from Berowra leaving just before 3am, hardcore Boulder.
Don’t know where we were or where we went but thanks Mick and Moose for getting us there, TB for the run on and the double home on the FRENCH MADE Tenere :P, and Boulder for the huge effort in coming for the ride.

Special thanks also to Boulder who has come good with a replacement wheel for me as the collapsed bearing has trashed the hub. True gentleman and legend of OBT. B)

And lesson definately learned about changing wheel bearings. I had been thinking about it for a while but kept putting it off.
