Well after having success and failure with the Michelin S12.. (The S12 is good in the wet but falls apart in the dry..)
I purchased a Dunlop 745 front and will give it a whirl..
The bike shop said it was the duck guts.. It’s black and has knobs on it,feeling weak and tired with a hint of curiosity I succumbed to their sales pitch. I will report back once I have some wear on it…
Does anyone have any first hand experience on this tyre for the front ?Here’s a pic in case you haven’t seen a tyre before
May 28, 2009 at 4:47 am #136935Is That the 742FA replacement if so should be a good thing as it was my front of choice, planted excellent feel and turn in and won’t drift at the apex unless you’re being silly as a wheel.
let us know how it goes

May 28, 2009 at 4:50 am #136939I have used the 745 rear… let me know how the front is. I was reasonably happy with the 745 on the back.

Good question, I have no idea if this tyre has been around for yonks or is new… And I’ll let you all know what I think it, if I can get off my arse and fit it..:S
May 28, 2009 at 4:51 am #136936They make great retreads:laugh:
seriously I have used one before on a kx250f and it worked well in the loamy stuff and sand. Once the edge of the knobs rounded over I didnt rate it very much, having said that It was being pushed at 100% around a cross country circuit.
Time will tell JRD,take it out for a run and give us your impressions

May 28, 2009 at 5:21 am #136941Sorry JRD I was mistaken the tyre I was talking about was the 742:blink: I cant comment on the 745.
Dont Dunlop have a new Geomax on the way?

June 9, 2009 at 9:33 am #136937Well I took the bike out for some lovin. And I have to report at the moment. I will never buy another michelin S12 front tyre again. This Front Dunlop 745 is damn good.. Soft sand never tracked so good, I could really wind on the power into a corner and feel the confidence it would pull me around… It’s rounded profile really helps tip the bike in a controlled manor. I feel confidence in the front of this bike again WITH the larger tank fitted !! As it is still new I will report later as it’s life develops.. But as it stands , definitely give one a whirl fellas..:woohoo:
June 9, 2009 at 9:41 am #138771Will watch with interest as I find that once a Dunlop rounds its edges they lose their performance where from experience a M12 or S12 doesnt. I am trying a IRC front at the moment and Moto just bought one, its performance is really impressive just see how it wears

AnonymousAs TB mentions I’m going through a very experimental stage in my life so will be interested to see how the 745 goes JRD. If it holds up for you it could be my next front to try….
June 10, 2009 at 1:10 am #138862Hey fella’s
I’ve been using IRC 140’s on the rear of my 525 and had a great run. They were only $100 at Inskips (Toronto). Never tried a front??? Went to put a new rear on the other day and found that there are no IRC 140’s in the country:angry: Something to with the dollar not trading well;) I have no idea what to put on now as there is not many options when you want a fatter tyre. Was hoping to roost my good mate Mal5.1 on the weekend up at stockton.
Will like to hear your feedback on those front hoops as the wear?????Cheers

AnonymousMurph,
Try a Kenda Washougal from the boys at Track and Trail. Mine has been great on all types of terrain, is cheaper than most (not IRC) and wear seesm to be great.
June 10, 2009 at 4:31 am #138881Hey Moto
I’m a bit shy of the Kenda range as my kid had one on his YZ and it was a nightmare to change when he had a puncture. I don’t know if all Kenda’s are like that, but with the amount of trouble we had I’m not too keen to take the risk.
Thanks anyway Moto
Murph :unsure:June 10, 2009 at 4:47 am #138890Try a Pirelli MX Scorpion, I have had good results with them, so has Crash, Moto and White rocket used one for the 4 day and liked it

MurphJune 10, 2009 at 6:05 am #138903You will like it mate, they dont grip as well as a S12 but not far behind, they wear well and grip well, be interested in you opinion as I put the others onto them
Sorry JRD and Dunlop
