Well, With Deano out of action due to having stitches in a bad place on his shoulder, I was gonna give today a miss. The weather has been a bit crap and the thought of a solo run in the mud was less than inviting,,,
Anyway, I set off about 930 after fuelling up the 690 and decided to make it up as I went along
Really that`s what I did … I was heading for Laguna area, so I made the trip out the back way thru the Gap and turned off to Quorrobolong, Paxton,Millfield etc till I got to Wollombi. It was too early for eats, so I fanged it out to Yango Creek Rd and up over the mountains to Finchley, It had been raining fairly hard all the way I might add so it was a tad unpleasant but what the heck, it was a paid ride in a way690 at Finchley Trig
The view, at least the rain had eased by now
The valley that Yengo Creek Rd runs through is superb so I decided to return and sneak a few pics while it wasn`t raining too bad
Some of the sights
There are quite a few of these along the way, and today some of them were flowing, this one was hub deep in the middle
Once back at Wollombi it was still too early for lunch, so I fanged round to the trusty Laguna Store to grab some fuel and a Pie etc
Once rested I then planned the next segment, back up Watagan Creek Rd into the mountains, which were looking wet wet wet again
Bit of a panorama
Had some slippery moments climbing up thru here as it has had a fair dumping the past few weeks and the clay is Dog on Lino stuff as well as all the protruding rocks being a slippery handful at times
The falls are about here
Made it safe & sound to the Pines, then thought I would head south towards Mandalong to check Muirs Lookout etc and I hadn`t been that way for years
The 690 at the lookout, Lake Macquarie in the distace
Even threw some dirt on it for Menace
The trail then hangs onto Prickley Ridge Rd, which is a slippery bastard in the damp conditions I can tell ya
Had some good cross rutted times thru here in places, then it dried out so I sped up again only to be greeted with more grey & red clay on or around the next bend, time & time again :woohoo:Stumbled upon this little mishap 😆
Noone around, camp gear in the back seat, lots of vivible signs of a long struggle in the clay trying to turn around, a flat tyre front & back and they obviously walked out for help :S :silly:
The reason they turned around I reckon
looks nothing like it in the pic really  it was pretty crappy
I walked thru it first to check it out, being solo & all and the drop was rather steep if I fell in with the clay
Made it no probs
Had lots more rutted sections to negotiate before coming across this little guy going about his business
Finally made it out to Tobins Rd and headed home for a meal & a good shower,,,
Maybe the little car should have read this & stayed at home
So, glad I went in the end, covered 240k all up and had a ball, even if I was alone :woohoo:
And yes, I had my Spot Tracker on all day(I still am not a fan of riding alone though)
BEATS WORKIN` ON A MONDAY THOUGH
Cheers AllSpot Adventure link here

March 18, 2012 at 8:22 pm #218419Great report and photo’s Eags. If I had my time again I would of made my doctors appointment for late today so I didn’t have my whole long weekend out of action.
Was a bit surprised you headed back via Watagans Creek Rd with all the rain about. It can be very rough and slippery heading back over the mountain. Yengo Creek Rd looks fantastic.

Can do the loop again ater Easter if you like mate,
Yengo Creek RD is terrific, but short, can loop out to Laguna the bottom way not turn around like I did today for the picsLet me know mate & we will do it before you shoot off ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

March 18, 2012 at 8:55 pm #218403Thanx Kat,,,,
 It is a common misconception that my bike never gets dirty
It actually gets like that quite often, just gets washed as soon as it is back home ,,,Truly,,,, I am always in the poo from the beter half cause I am out there for hours after a ride making it shine
Lots of CT20 and Armorall wipes   :laugh:It is a 10 year investment for me (not getting another bike for a while) :S
March 18, 2012 at 8:56 pm #218428Did you turn around at the lookout on Yengo or go thru to te Putty Eags
