Now that is a good tip we did that in every pony express we did and it works a treat
and good luck boys
Yep, Bob and I never race each other on the track always on the time sheets.
March 14, 2013 at 3:57 am #2381603B is a great product to stop monkey butt
I use it on every ride
Cheers
MurphMarch 14, 2013 at 6:55 am #238163Some great advice and tips that I’m sure will help a lot
Does anyone use magnesium ? Ev put me onto it and it made the last Lowanna ride a lot easier by easing the cramps.
Cheers

I have read that you must hydrate for a few days leading up to a race and eating carbs the night before is no good, you have to eat them a few days before too.
Gatorade, energy bars, energy gels, bananas, honey etc. Don’t forget to eat some real food too.
Might be wise to invest in some roll offs for your goggles, good chance it will be muddy and you can’t go very fast when you can’t see.
And remember to breath. (thanks Mal
)
Ah yes BREATH, BREATH, BREATH!!! Consciously make yourself breath deeply. Oxygen feeds your muscles and if you don’t breath it’ll be arm pump city before you know it.
Carb loading the night before will do more harm than good. I learnt the hard way and then was told (and read) the correct way to do it. Now I’m not fast by any stretch of the imagination but I can last a full event now.
Start 3 to 4 days from the event with small high carb meals (lunch and/or dinner) and slowly increase the size every day. Do the same with water to hydrate the body as well.
Through the event eat small amounts often. I eat bananas, oranges and peanut butter sandwiches (only half at a time) and energy gels.
Start with 2 laps each if you want and see how your times go. When I did it the Pros were doing 4 laps each in a 2 man team (about 90min a session). I would suggest 1 lap each and get your transponder change over silky smooth and quick. You’ll have quicker times by being fresh for every lap.
Rest between laps. Lightly stretch the large muscle groups and massage the really sore ones (forearms especially).
Leave the tools in the pits, it’s a quick pony express style of event.
If you want off bike training, get on a rowing machine and do 500m in under 2min with 60-90 sec rest x 5 morning and afternoon if you can.
And as everyone has said have fun, you’re not going to win a sponsored ride.
Oh yeah BREATH!!!!!!
Enjoy.
Mal (can ride) is on the money with breathing. It sounds so simple but is the first thing you forget to do under pressure. When I used to race downhill MTB I used to focus on nothing but breathing for the first minute or so. It settles you down and keeps your muscles powered and your brain switched on.
I have put the Honda away until the event but am doing my beach workout and ocean swim 5 days a week and smahing beers all weekend so I should be right for the event and the after party
I am so excited for this whole road trip as we have two other days of riding planned and such a good crew to do it with. My tactic will be one hot lap and a bunch of fillers punctuated by a shitload of excusesSTM

That would be funny if it was not true. Nickj and I are both running Kibblewhites so we don’t have to deal with push starting each other

March 14, 2013 at 8:40 am #238177So much false information.
First carefully and sneakilly attach your transponder in the airbox of one of the heros. Then load up a big backpack full of piss and munchies and a small bushsaw. On the sighting lap pickout a narrow bushy section of the track and set up camp, including using your saw to cut a 50mm branch about 2.4m long. Then settle back and count the laps the hero does and when you judge it to be the last lap step out of the bush and belt him across the chest taking him out. Carefully stash the body , piling your empty tinnies around him to explain his accident and refit your transpomder from his air box. then proceed to the finish line covered in glory.PS take a wet cloth with you in case some blood splatters on your riding gear when you hit him.
March 14, 2013 at 8:53 am #238125My 2 cents, after your run just walk around your bike and look at it, give everything a wiggle and check random bolts with fingers. If you are 100% happy with the bike its something you don’t have to think about just focus on the ride.

For f@#$% sake Breathe
Write it on your handlebar pad
I think I took 2 breathes in 10 mins on the first lap of the 8 hour ………….and yes arm pump
Go out fast and hard ……..take no prisoners
If laps are only 25 mins and not snotty you won’t have time to drink out of a camelbak unless you can reach it with your tongue
Drink and piss every rest stop and nibble
make sure you have a piss as they don’t take the minute off your lap time if you have to take one, when you have to do the last lap when the rest of your team is laying under a tree
And don’t crash in the last 5 min , it still hurts
And finally Have a go you fags I won’t be thinking of you at all
PS
For f@#$% sake Breathe
Go out fast and hard ……..take no prisonersBut I don’t know shit so do as you please
