I am not sure I know the old ones didnt and I dont know why they would change it really. A machine shop like repco on Manns Rd West Gosford will machine it when you give them the new piston.

Quote:What a team of good blokes, go ahead and do it Ontherun as Murph said you have done it almost once already. Get the piston organised, get it bored by a machine shop to suit the piston and away you go. If you get stuck post up we have rebuilt AB’s bike here god knows how many times  Murph will help you out, take some pics and tell us how it went you will be fine mate.Good on everyone

My bike has never been rebuilt
My old bike on the other hand…..
Of course if I asked the right questions the first time it would’ve only been rebuilt once and technically I suppose it was but steps 4 through to 10 were probably repeated two or three times
Mind you I gave the new buyer the old piston and rings as spares as there was not a problem with it. I only rebuilt it because I wanted to eliminate that as the problem and with the head off it was suggested I may as well do it.

It was a great example of how tech help here worked

March 17, 2010 at 1:15 am #173509I’m a walking talking example of how tech help here worked and although experience helps retain the knowledge I couldn’t have experienced what I did without the guidance I had from this place. Certainly makes the donation I made before I even settled in seem insignificant when you consider the cost of trying to learn that stuff without friends that can help.
I recall posting on another site asking how to remove my exhaust and it took about a week to get a serious response and as a result I missed the next morning’s ride where if someone had’ve given me the answer I needed it would’ve taken 5 minutes to change the exhaust instead of half a carton. Granted that may happen here if you accidentally post outside the tech help forum if you get that much right you’re almost guaranteed a running start.
Muchos gracias a los toros viejos!
March 17, 2010 at 4:36 am #173512Thanks heaps guys for all the quick responses and encouragment.
I will pull her apart and give it a go myself. I just have scary memories of as a young teen saving up for months to buy a piston and rings for beloved ride, installing myself thinking I did a great job only to have it seize almost straight away. I forgot about the relatively new shop at Morriset, I will see if they can look after me for some parts.
Should give me a great sense of acheivement to get her running properly.
Any tips on determining if the big end bearings are had it?
