I got an email from the president of the ‘Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club’ OBMCC asking if any Old Bulls would be interested in sweeping their club championship rounds at Portland on October 29 &30.

I know the christmas party is on at Nundle but thought I’d ask anyway. I’ll be asking the local guys from the DSMRA as well.

I’ll be entering the event if I feel fit enough, if not I’ll be sweeping as well.

They will be running a Cross Country & Time Trial on Saturday and a grass track on Sunday. They will need about 5 to 10 riders to keep circulating and fixing up the course on Saturday and about 3 riders on Sunday. No need to mark it as this will be done on Friday before the race.

    Cheers

Seems as though the Old Bulls has picked up a gig with this sweep riding caper.

Only 3 on Sunday? Is it seniors and juniors? Is Sunday the sprint? From past experience, you’ll need a few more riders and bikes up your sleeve.

To anyone interested, I say “do it” you will have a great day. Especially if you are interested in going in a race, some time in the future. This is the perfect introduction to what goes on, come race day. The best part is you get to experience race day and not have to pay for a great day out and you have helped out at the same time.

Yeah Sunday is the sprint Mick. They have 1 track setup and cut it in half for the Juniors. I think they are 20mins +1 sprints and each class does about 3 or 4 races in the day. Each class also has flag duty allocated to them.

The track on Sunday is reasonably short and most of it can be viewed from the car park(Great for spectators). There is two flaggys to a corner most times, so 1 can do the flag duties and one can be fixing tape and posts.

The sweeps are really for leading the sighting lap and following the last rider around the track. I’m sure if they have more it will be ok.

KTM_Rules has a fair bit to do with the club so he should be able to answer any questions as i probably got most of that wrong. That was last years setup, might be different this year.

The reason I said you’d need more than 3, is that there is bound to be a hassle of some sort (a flat tyre for instance) and with only 3 riders, you might find yourself real busy all of a sudden.

You’re right Mick, more than 3 would be good. But that’s the number I got in the email.

Galey – you’re on the list mate. You should enter, you might just give medogrocket a run for his money. :woohoo:

Ok then , give me some more dets on what the cross country involves? Short enduro or long sprint? How long are the laps and how many of them. What class are you entering Medog? Clubman 35’s. Where is our best chance for a trophy? Good chance to see how slow I am!

I have been devising a cunning plan in my head to get some entry fee sponsorship from Great Westerns in return for the Heavily Blinged Up Jackaroo signage and the”I’d like to thank……..” part when I receive my trophy.

No trophies for us Galey, unless everyone else DNF’s, if you really want a trophy they cost about $15 at the trophy shop, Clubman 35’s (Vets), Cross country is usually a 2hr moto, as many laps as you can get in with a mandatory pit stop, don’t draw to mach attention to yourself, it’s much more fun to turn up as a no body and stick it to the super want to be’s in the class on there super blinged, sponsored bikes

Last year they had to run the senior event as one moto, all in Pro’s and all, each class started about 30 seconds apart, laps were around the 15-20mins, I got lapped by the pro’s half way round my final lap, i thought that was ok, this was done due to the bad weather.
Grass track is well a grass track, 4 laps or so, class by class and heaps of fun
