August 12, 2009 at 8:49 am #147974I have had a couple of crashes with it on and hit my helmet on the ground heavily and I am still wondering if I would have broken my neck, or would I have been able to tuck and roll better with out it on and not hit my head at all.
They tend to limit how much you can” tuck” in a crash and your ability to look over your shoulder (A bugger if you are leading a ride or if you are on the main roads with other traffic). Because it sticks out from the back of your helmet, the brace also makes it hard to duck under vines, branches and the like,so you have to take that into consideration if you predominately ride trails as opposed to MX. For MX they are great,as for trail riding.the jury is still out.
I believe they are a good thing, as all safety gear is, but not something I recommend you buy over the internet. You really need to try a few different braces on, is the general consensus.August 12, 2009 at 8:57 am #147988thanks mick food for thought there being just trail rider

Mick I found that the first few rides with my neck brace was the same, but I got used to it, so there is no Jury decisions for me Mate, it is cut and dried as far as I am concerned, The tuck and roll exercise you talk of is only the low speed stuff Mate, when you get rag-dolled in a higher speed get off you have no chance to tuck anything anywhere, Please wear what you have got everytime Brother, EVERYTIME
by the way I will pay for the stickers for your wheel chair that say, “I thought I could tuck quick enough”
August 12, 2009 at 9:36 am #147999Rocket asked my opinion and got it. I still say they are a good thing, I just pointed out the down sides of wearing one, because I have actually worn one on more than on ride.
The time I smacked my head on the Hill End ride was one of the occasions that came to mind when I was thinking the brace limited my ability to tuck. Admittedly I did hit my head hard enough to leave the imprint of my helmet liner on my ample forehead, that stayed visible for three days.August 12, 2009 at 10:12 am #148003Thats fine and noted Mick, if you know which rides you are going to crash just wear it those rides then  I hate the donut brace I wear for all the same reasons, and have bought 3 different braces ( two leatts, and the EVS you have now) as you know because I wanted to wear one for safety reasons and cant because I have no neck!

August 12, 2009 at 10:45 am #148018As I said in a previous post he asked my opinion and got it. It is my opinion. Not yours TB and not Dave’s either. From memory neither of you have ridden with one, so you cant really comment on my opinion of the EVS.
All along I have said that neck protection is a good thing. When I have tried a Leatte for 10 rides or more I might feel qualified to comment on someone’s opinions of them, until I do I will reserve my opinions on Neck Braces to the EVS.August 12, 2009 at 10:55 am #148026I am only saying wear it all the time Mick, as I have had the discussion with you before. I dont like mine but what can you do
I DO AGREE WITH ALL POINTS YOU MADE MICK FOR THE RECORD

I too was neckless for years, but after my recent 14kg weight loss I found it again been missing since my teens, and I’m not sure i like it, however I see two evs’ in our future, one for the lad and one for his dad.

Incidentally I have ridden with an EVS brace Mick
