Mmmmm, yeah been there done that. I now have a policy where as soon as something is wrong (done wrong, turned up late, pissed me off somehow, anything at all) I let them (any employee) know. If it continues I remind them. If it still continues they get a warning, and then the sack. Family friend be damned, this is a business! Its better than letting it stew and stressing yourself out.

As employer you have enough to worry about without this. Let them worry, that’s why you pay them. Let them know what is wrong in your opinion and listen to their response, you might even find a systemic problem that can be solved easily. But, bottom line, they have to do things your way or its the highway. That’s business.

No such thing as a family friend whilst you are at work that is rule #1

you need to be up front and honest if you are having issues eiter get them sorted by way of termination or set a time limit for them to resolve their problems, (remember the longer you let it go on the harder it will be to fix) and do not bend from that time limit, after all your the boss and there the employee IE: you pay their wages not the other way around.
