The problem becomes trying to hold onto em for more than ten minutes, and using MxRetreads just gets so much traction down it almost compounds the problem……..

January 18, 2010 at 6:30 pm #168709Depends what terrain you are riding.
In single track, I steer with my feet a lot and am constantly using brake and gear levers so I use my arches. As Busy223 said, if things get too tight just twist the throttle and launch over the obstacle. Failing that, lift one foot clear and weave the bike through or, sit and paddle with your feet.
On open trail and road I am on the balls of my feet because it feels better and there’s less chance of toes getting hit by a rock or stick etc.
I got my big toe hit by a rock or similar (didn’t even see it) the other day on a road (read: tar) ride because I was on the arches with toes pointing down, it hurt badly for the rest of the day and was blue when I took off my boots.
From now on when I am on the road or open trails I am going to use the balls of my feet always.January 18, 2010 at 11:30 pm #168705busy223 wrote:
Quote:See on a KTM you don’t need to move your feet, just twist your right hand to help lift the whole show that extra bit above all the nasty bits on the ground.. ha ha. I’ve got it bad, I know!Mmm then it’s off to the dealer for some new Rims and off to the Chiropractor for some new Discs, It is a KTM after all…Push Down Slingshot suspension and all….

January 21, 2010 at 4:48 am #168742I’m with Mick here, most often my feet seem to be anywhere BUT on the pegs!
Seriously though, no really! I ride the WR with my arches mostly on the pegs, but to the rear so that I have maximum possible movement at the toe. It chews the sole of my boot out but that’s what they are for I figure. Gives me a good grip with my ankle on the frame (as I can’t seem to get my knees to grip much) and still lets the toes work the controls.
That said I find the WR different to most other bikes I have ridden. This may be my skill set changing or who knows what else, but I have only started this foot position since having the WR.
Before that it was arches all the way.
Good thread!

AnonymousAh yes, I’ve been through this too.
For a long time when I was riding I would ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs. I put this down to the fact that I was a ballet dancer for many years and we did nearly everything on the balls of the feet. So for me, initially I felt more in control this way because that’s how my body automatically balanced. DanD’s argument to this was the reaction time that it took to change gears, brake etc. Fair enough in the right circumstances. However now that my gear level sticks all the way out to timbuktoo (thanks to Dan for doing that one) and the brake level all mashed like a potato, I have to move my feet a fair way anyway to use the levers.
In saying that I am used to having my arches on the pegs now and I don’t think my pivot pegs would work as well if I was still riding on my balls.
