Have been running filter skins for a while now at the suggestion of TB on my first ride, just took the one of the WR, the air filter itself is clean as but the filter skin is filthy obviously doing a good job, I managed to find the other 2 whilst doing my Garage renovation. I use the silkolene spray on air filter oil on them and also give the filter a spray as well.. Well worth the $30.00 (for 3) spent, saves the mess of cleaning air filters every ride, still clean the main filter every 3 rides or so just in case.

Also good for long multiday rides, you can just rip off the skin and replace with a nice clean one.

I’m going to get some of these. I hate cleaning filters. So much so, I keep buying new ones and have 7 now! Filter skins have to be the go as the KTM airbox lets more and crap in that most other bikes I have seen.

I thought the same thing until I realised I was paying 30 bucks for one and a half stockings!!!! Raid the missus’ top drawer…but don’t tell her;) .
I found the toes of panty hose work eactly the same and SWMBO pays for them!!!!

Having said that, I don’t ride enough to warrant such regular filter changes

I used to always use them they are gold, but the 650’s filters are flat so cant be used, I use a chux, yes run of the mill Chux, cut to shape and oiled they are the go.

A Chux is a dish cloth that is a real thin blue or yellow colour usually, they are really good for the flat type filter, I too have used them for years in the KTM 50 air filters as pre filters

Apparently pool filter skins are cheaper than bike-specific ones but are exactly the same. Yet to test the theory, but intend to do so shortly considering the amount of dust around and the forecast for bugger-all rain in the next month or so!

Thats right ECKS-man, bought a pack of three today for the pool $7.00, had the same thought as I was fitting one to the pool skimmer basket. I always run filter skins so I am going to try one next time.

    Hi Chris,

No, nothing exciting anyway! Just serviced her yesterday and put an aftermarket LED taillight/numberplate holder on but otherwise still as I got it! My excuse is that I have been away over the Chrissy break! Only had one brief ride over the whole time and that was just a shakedown to get the feel for balance points, sliding points and so on. Will be back into it all shortly now though – providing the temps drop below 40° occasionally.

    Anything new with your beastie?

Who would have thought about pool skins eh? I’ll jump on the band wagon and give em a go too then :)
