Seriously you guys how many hrs racing would be acceptable to you guys.

Couple of years ago at the Condo 750, the Yamaha desert factory team had two bikes one was a 2w2 one, after the first day the replace the cylinder heads on their 450’s, both of them, it was the last time I saw the factory supported team there, Crash, kiwi and myself had a sticky while in the work period. That was after 7hrs racing?

I think anyone thats been around racing lately and listened to four strokes banging on the limiter I would think 100hrs is great

I thought it was pretty impressive, especially for a honda and more so for racing. I may have been quoted out of context! 100 hours of racing is like 12 rides equivalent to my Secret Handshake ride… that’s hard hard yakka blokes, on man and machine and not to be sneezed at!

100 hrs is still not much riding for vavles compared to my last bike wr 400 2000 model had it for 6 years rode most weakends raced motercross for 1 season comuted to work for 12 months-14 min each way vavles only moved one shim size.had its faults though harsh falks started using oil after 5.5years not bad i thought a lot more reliable than xr400 previuos bike it was a lemon my current ktm valves have hardly moved but piston ring life not so good in shop geting a knew piston now.love thoughs ballards filter skins but filters last heaps longer

I rode an old XT500 in the ISA for 2 yrs…Abused it severely..very few filter cleans, and oil got done just before i sold it. Mind you, no racing, just plugging along most of the time..had CR250’s for hard running..Top bikes CR’s, pity the 2t are dead in the water now.

I agree with Tb 100 hrs of top line thrashing out of a top end is way impressive, lately I’ve been rethinking this whole air filtration aspect, years ago we had essentially sealed airboxes that where restrictive and hard to get at, but abd a big butt too, we hardly ever had any dusting issues. We used to open the airboxes up on the sides to allow better flow (ala RM125s with 2 ” holesaw holes in sidecovers at every meet)and still didn’t have too many problems.
Now many airboxes intake from right where the dust is thick and while this is great for flow and H/power does make life hard for the poor old filter. Maybe a snorkle system like some roadies have may be better, as I have lost count of how many rides I have been on where a 4T starts nor start on the starter as the valves start to recess, usually these blokes are riding mid-pack and the filter has allowed some fine fine grit through and Voilia instant top-end job.

what I am trying to say is there must be a better system out there.

Yeah Bruce, if you have spent sometime around the top line guys and see what the bikes and engines go through you would realise that 100hrs racing from any engine is real good, if you let go of the brand issues you would agree, also no one past comment regarding the Yamaha team swapping cylinder heads after 400 odd kms of racing at the condo 750

Yes I believe air boxes are an issue, since I modified mine I hardly get an dust in the filter.
