Well I have been looking at my 650 in Motard spec ever since my operation on the 30th of November. Dan has ridden it and was impressed somewhat

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zNPYQrZLSk

That video has just made not being allowed to ride even worse. I have worked really hard on my rehabilitation and today declared myself motard fit  and with Salina at work I thought I would take it for a ride. I was somewhat nervous as I suited up to go for a ride, I had to go to Sutto’s to get a couple of things for the PW restoration job and to hand over a sponsor clock that Dan had prepared earlier.

I got ready started the bike let it warm up and stalled it twice in the driveway  my neighbour not knowing that I have metal sintered clutch plates and how tall it is geared kept yelling “MOTO IS THAT YOU ON TB’S BIKE” such was the skills on display :P :P :P :P

Once I got going it felt somewhat weird to be riding again and the gearing of the bike was also weird, not getting out of 2nd gear in my street
I rode down to Sutto’s via the pass and a 3kms freeway section and found that yes Dan I think the speedo wont be big enough for sure and that anything below 95kph you need to change back out of top gear as the chain slap is to much.

The brakes are nothing short of incredible, I mean stoppies would be a piece of piss if I could trust my shoulder to hold the pressure required.
I had a ball, it was so good to be back on the bike even if only on the road. I found a section of private road and found that wheel standing the bike was different with the motard wheels because of the reduced rolling resistance the wheel would roll out from under you easier then with knobbies thus being easier to flip. I did one cracker and actually ran out of private test road

Am looking forward to next weeks ride from the central coast to home and back to the central coast again and maybe the pie in the sky ride with WB, Kylie and Dan.

Now to tell Salina when she gets home :(

Hopefully there will be some tread left on those tyres after your fire breathing beast has shreaded them.

    Yeh hah TB’s back :) :) :)

I thought you would like the fiddy in motard trim – I know I did :) :) :)

The speedo is no where big enough on your bike – I reckon it will end up with a bent needle  (disclaimer – only on private test rides)

    15 – 39 is the gearing its running in motard trim, normally I run 14 – 48 for tight stuff and 15 – 45 or 14 – 45 for the faster riding

I run the same gearing on my xr400 15:39 and its great on the road and still ok in the bush so with road wheels they must go even better B)

Different primary drive ratios is where the difference is, a 650 has a lot faster primary drive ratio because the bigger engine can pull it ;)

It was never a problem helping you out with getting the fiddy into road trim mate :)

It was an honour to be the first to take her out for the first road ride. :woohoo: I do enjoy riding the Fiddy, it has just got so much go in it :)

A XR650 is one bike that I would change colours for – too bad they dont have electric leg and I do struggle a bit with those damn dipsticks  Never mind I will just have to stay on a blue bike
