I recon for a first attempt at the Finke you did bloody well and it was good to see your old man having a ball.

I just showed my 4 year old daughter this video and when the quad and pink tu-tu went passed she said ” is that Greg ? ” I laughed and said no , she said ” oh it must be Spud then ” !!! Cracked me up :D
She was upset that you crashed Gibbit , then cheered when you over took the quad ;) Gold

    Great vid B)

She is priceless she is also obviously so used to seeing all your videos where we are all passing you ;)

Again it’s a fantastic write up I also checked through some results last night and I am sure it is the highest finish by an Old Bull at Finke. Next best about 100 spots behind in 2010 was Sb-250y, without detracting from sb’s result at all because a finish there in the first 50% is a great effort but given his race experience (safaris, condos, yellow mountains etc) it puts into perspective just how well you did mate one bike same tyres with your Dad cheering you on AWESOME!

Thanks fellers. Im glad I your daughter liked it Nick.

I am happy with my first time result, but know I can do better if I can get back there.

I have about 9 hrs of helmet cam footage to go through, so there may be another highlights vid to come yet.

A fellow worker saw some of my road section footage and asked if I had sped it up. It cracked me up! The gearing I ran was good for around 140- 150. If I ran the 15/45 it would have topped out at about 165km/hr.

Just worked out my average speed for the race was 72.5km/hr. Thats moving pretty well.

Well done Gibbit on the race result and the Thread write up. One of the best threads on the site I reckon.

Inspirational……. Man I’d love to give it a go.

You said it was expensive, roughly how much $$$$ do you need to spend to give it a proper go?

    Team OBT anyone????

Well done Stevo B) must of been an awsome experience. Also great that your dad could be a part of it. your bike blew those others off at the start line, left them for dead.

Well done Gibbit. Glad you had a clean run and a good time. Top right up too. Really enjoyed the read.
With the costs, you didn’t include the rebuild leading up, but you would have done that anyway I suppose.
My run last year was almost identical to yours. I prologued at 160 and was holding my own until I stacked at the 150 mark passing a quad. From there we park similarities. I had to get my shoulder back in, and had to survive the rest of the ride. I would have much rather done it how you did it!
Well done. Those YZs are powerful desert sleds aren’t they?

Thanks mate. The rebuilt cost me about $800 in parts and a bit of skin off the knuckles.

Any one who finishes this race is a bloody legend very well done Gibbit. Chris Thomas from Moree(OBT revthemobkey) placed 5th in his class and 50th outright. apparently had a big off over the bars but pulled through.
