Does anyone use finny leak? (I think this is how it is spelt)

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about its the stuff that is in an aerosol can that can pump up your tyre and fill holes in one easy step. I have used it once with success but was wondering if anyone else carries a can when they go riding.
Probably everyones not as lazy as me when it comes to fixing flats in the bush. I would rather ride out on a flat than to pull the tyre off and replace the tube.

It says on the can thats it’s not to be used in two wheeled vehicles but who cares. (They warn against smoking but I still do that)

The time that I used it, it got me home but I had to replace the tube as the tyre went flat a few days later.

Does it fill the tube with a foam like substance that blocks the hole, never used the stuff, did it make it hard to replace the tube as it went solid. How big is the can to carry?
When I buy a new bike I get the tyres replaced with Michelins and the tubes replaced with extra extra heavy duty tubes they are a prick to replace tyres with but in all my years I have never had a flat, I use my CO2 bottles and patches on my mates bikes.

i keep a can behind the drivers seat of the ute. if the car is close i’ll ride back there and get it. if not: i’ll use a patch.

i never get flats. the last time i can remember getting a puncher was back at hillsbourgh quarry on a 85 tt250. that was because i was flat landing off the cliff. At one stage I used the same set of tubes on 3 successive bikes until I decided I should buy new tubes

i use metzeler hd tubes at 14psi and keep the wheels light (2t).

on long trips on the nx i carry a small can of bike finny leak that graham morris mc sell

now that I said that, I’ll get a flat (or someone will remember me getting a flat)

I thought finny leak was only designed and successful with tubeless tyres, I have never seen it work on a tube style flat but have used it myself on my road bike (tubeless)
KTM01 is right Michelin ultra heavy duty tubes are the go, one better is mousse tubes, if not the back at least the front, prevents dented front rims also.
I use Michelin ultras in my rear if I am doing high speed stuff as rear mousses over heat and collapse and I haven’t had a flat in years and years.

    Thanks for the replies.

KTM01 – the can that I have is as big as a can of fly spray, it doesn’t fill the tubes solid only puts a sticky type stuff on the inside. I used it years ago when I had my DT200 it may have changed since then.

Next time that I get a new tyre I may invest in some heavy type tubes as I have only got what Yamaha put in. So I would say that they would be less then heavy duty. I’ll get the tyres fitted by the bike shop though cause past experience with fitting a tyre with a HD tube was wasn’t too fun:(

Champo – no wonder you got a flat. I witnessed your quarry riding days. Early Crusty Demon comes to mind:laugh:

TB – You are correct that it’s only meant for tubeless tyres. It worked once for me, bet it dont next time:angry: .

    oh soory dand,

i forgot to add. i’ve fixed mates flats with ‘finny leak’. it has always worked (it wouln’t work if the valve was torn off). then they happily keep riding on that tyre. if they get another hole, they would not even know as it would be sealed up too (it stays liquid).

there is also fibrey liqiud green stuff you can put in your tubes to fill holes incase of flats. i run some in our moutain bikes. drunk people tend to throw their empty bottles at pushie riders from there cars. among other things, its leaves a lot of broken glass on the road where pushies ride. i havn’t had flats on our pushies since doing this

there are some cheap hd tubes getting around called eagle or something like that. i found that the valves easily pull out of the tubes when changing tyres

while i have your attention, the grrrs also forgot micknmeld’s chair. we will have to meet up for a ride next week to give it to yous to pass on

yamaha has a repuation of putting mx tubes in their enduro bikes. i imagine they have made moves to crrect this as they had heaps of flats on a mass wr press test. the jounos got sick of getting flats.

i can’t understand why it would not be suited to tubed tyres

i also can’t understand how it is supposed to help balance wheels. can someone help me out here?

Years ago when I was looking after a fleet of trucks in Newcastle, balancing of steer tyres became an issue, we would have them balanced and the next week they would loose a weight and the whole process would start again.

The tyre company I was using started supplying the steer tyres with a brown paper bag with what looked like a fine brown sand in side, fine fitting the tyre you fitted one side, chucked the bag (still unopened) in the tyre, fitted the other side and away it went. The idea was the bag would break and the STUFF? would then balance the tyre. The drivers loved it and said it worked great, never did get to find the theory behind it though, will be the same for the finny leak stuff

Dan can you get some heavy duties fitted to go to Hillend? I am sure Champo will chuck em in for you and Kylie hey Champo.

Slime works good in push bike tyres i put it in the kids tyres in WA they have the big goats head prickles there….I would just check what speed its rated at it may throw wheel out of balance at high speed

Dont think I would ever use a mousse, I seen a guy that was riding with us all day go through a creek crossing and the mousse must of contracted, the bead let go and he was stuck in the creek as the rim was spinning inside the tyre.

Something strange going on there, go to 4 day and see how all the guys are using them, and they would work a tyre harder than your mate. Crash, Chicken and Myself have never had a drama, we mainly use them on the front, I run rears and I cant say I have every had a problem and I feel myself and my bike would test them,

    Strange happenings
