Hi Guys, I’ve done Fraser Island twice on my KTM300, as long as you prepare your bike and wash the hell out of it when you get home they seem to handle it OK.. Bearings and pads are no worries, the inland trails are great fun:woohoo: … the run up to the northern tip is alright if you’ve never done it before but is long, straight and fairly boring. For those who’ve never done Fraser by bike it is a must do at least once. My belief is in years to come they will stop bikes going over. Gotta watch out for 4wd,s though as of course there a lot slower than the bikes… But once on the inland trails less travelled, you have the whole place to yourselves… Any questions about Fraser just ask me.. cheers

Quote:Yeah, to go over the top, you could do your sand run from Noosa, hop the ferry over the river then run the beach to Rainbow/Inskip, onto the next ferry and hit Fraser at Hook point..( the Bottom end), then the long run upto the top point. That would be the run for the brissy end of QLD. Take a long weekend because the run upto Rainbow is full of other spots to check out to.This is the kind of run im thinking of with maybe an overnight campout on the island.
What would be the best time of year to do such a ride? Thinking of still being warm enough for a swim but trying to avoid the peak tourist seasons.
December 31, 2008 at 1:47 am #116338I have been to Fraser twice and found March and September to be alright as it isn’t all that hot then. but September is a bit busier as it isthe start of Tailor season and the fishos are thick on the ground.

Mate, I worked Trawlers in this area in the mid 80’s, 1/2 mile off the beach of Eurong resort, i’ve been woken by the sound of a HUGE Tiger Shark banging it’s head against the boat. 1/2 mile from us were Clowns standing near chest deep in water throwing bait out?? On the Inside of Fraser, Vic Hislop has caught the Largest Tiger shark in Oz Waters. I’m with you, wanna swim, swim in the lakes. To think, my mates used to lay back in the nets when coming back into Tin Can Bay..

AnonymousAlso, just to note that this will no longer be the first QLD Old Bull ride!
January 21, 2009 at 11:51 am #117897Hi guys, I’v just read all the posts regarding the Qld ride and would agree with McGUYver that the Kenilworth to Imbil ride would be the one to go for. I’v been up the beach to Rainbow and back to Noosa via the Cooloola Way and the other tracks, it’s a ride that covers approx 150-200ks depending on which way you go and while it covers some awesome scenery the ride up the beach is a bit boring and the tides have to be right to avoid riding in the soft sand. I’m trying to find some maps to show the tracks out at Kenelworth as I’v been told many times they are awesome, so I will keep you posted
January 21, 2009 at 11:53 am #115868count me in if you guys do the pre-ride Mike

Quote:Unfortunatly I cant make it that day, but having said that I would reconsider the RTCB rides if I were you. These rides are set up mainly to cater to the flanny set. The tracks are usually rocky rutted shit holes, which of course can be fun, but not when your #600 through.I reckon a better option would be a run through the Kenilworth state forest to Imbil pub for lunch then back again. Great riding in a great part of the country.
I have the gps track that I would send to whoever nominates to be the lead rider as long as they respect the fact and use it accordingly.
The route would need to be pre ridden as I havnt done it for quite a few months. This would have to be a option we could look at Ray, maybe you could hook up with mcGUYver for a pre run

AnonymousTB are you doing the pre-run when up North on the 22nd Feb?
I’m still thinking about the logistics of arranging some meetings in Brisbane and bringing my bike up.
January 22, 2009 at 10:38 am #119044TB – I’m keen to get out there and have a good look around, getting someone to show me a few of the rides around Kenilworth has proved difficult so far, but if mcGUYver’s up for it then i’m keen.
January 22, 2009 at 10:58 am #119153Mike,
I am new to Queensland and live on the south side of Bris Vegas, so am struggling to find riding spots, If you come up with a route on the north side I would be happy to pre ride, just let me know, am thinking about a ride this weekend at Woodenbong.Cheers KTM01
January 22, 2009 at 11:10 am #119159KTM01 I’v only recently started hittin the forests up here between Noosa and Rainbow Beach and although the rides are good they are fairly similar, I don’t know about tracks down towards Brissy but would be keen to find out . Where’s Woodenbong?

Where’s Woodenbong?Woodenbong is about 100km south of Brissy back in NSW best riding in the area, only ever been there once for a look around. Keep me posted if you come up with something and I would come up for a ride.
Cheers KTM01
