Day 6: Hawker to Broken Hill (472km) ..Depart 8.30am Arrive 4.30pm

Drop Count – Yee HA….’0′ by Kat

    Route:
    Craddock via dirt
    East toward Yednallie Station
    South Almost to Clifden
South East (SE) to Glenroy then North East (NE) to Belton, Witchitie
    Old Baratta
SE Milang Well (Phone in Old Card)
    SE Yunta
    SE Danaramatee
    NE Manna Hill
    NE Outalpa
    SE Olary (drink in Pub)
Broken Hill… for New Years celebration..

    Highlights:
Playing in the ruins and taking funny photo’s
Kat nearly hitting an emu’s arse doing 100km. There were millimeters in it.
Seeing dust twisters in the distance. Then seeing one twister form immediately next to Mick and hit him straight on. Impact was a bike wiggle. This was followed by another twister that was working its way towards us and decided to hit Mick. Two Twisters = Two hits on Mick….. he is a magnet for them.
Olary Pub – publican enjoyed seeing another KTM … he owns one…. and sure enough has lots of folk seal ‘challenges’!!. Plus he had a little pussy that was only 3 weeks old that caught Micks eyes!!. The rum/coke or 3 felt good. One was for the emu nerves, one was for the heat and the last one was for no reason other than I love the taste.
Anyone doing a ride from Broken Hill to Olary…. the publican suggest you follow railway lines rather than do tar
Hitting Broken Hill and knowing that we needed to pack up the bikes, get into our party cloths, drink, eat and dance till midnight….. well it didn’t quiet turn out like that!!
Night at the Musical Club listening/dancing to a band
Going back to caravan park and crashing before midnight…… couldn’t keep eyes open… and we had to get away early for the 12hr drive home the next day.

    Highlights
Mick sleeping most of the way in a reclined position
Enjoyed the last chapters of the audio book
    Kat dodging goats and sheep.
Mick finding creative ways to make time pass slowly

    General Stat’s:
Total of 3968km traveled in 7 days (car and bike)
Two days of driving in car – 2249km
Five days on bike – 1719km
Average Km per day over 5 days – 345km
480 litre’s of fuel consumed (car and bike)
    Average Temp: 35 degrees
Dam Water Temp: bath water temp
Cost about $152.00 p/d per person for everything (fuel, accommodation, drinks and dinner)
Total Accommodation p/d average $80 (ie $40 each)

I have to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Mick for coming with me. It was a last minute hair brain idea of mine to go. I’ve worked out that its not safe doing these things on your own and its more fun when you can share it with a mate. Thanks for picking me up, dusting me off and not complaining when you had to walk some hills to bring my bike down and lastly putting up with my sick behaviour / humour.
