with Rocket!!!
That is gold!!
just quietly…….they’re a beautiful machine. It may be a little heavy, but I gotta say, value for money and enjoyment wise…….I can’t think of another bike that would tick as many boxes as they do for me!
IMO
Crash
October 11, 2010 at 8:56 am #188819Im with you crash. mine is a dream to ride when its not bucking me off!!!!!!
Giddy upOctober 11, 2010 at 8:58 am #188820you cant knock those XR650s, XR600s there a great bike i had the XR650 L but stripped it down and set it up just like a 600, got rid of the battery crap on the end of the bike and put it in the airbox and ran a unifilter pod filter with a staintune header and pipe on it and the best part it had the BUTTON!!! had it 3 1/2 years and it never broke down on me or had to rebuild it , oh those were the days
October 11, 2010 at 10:11 am #188824Crash, Rob and Huskybloke have seen the light and know why we do it. I ride more than your average weekend warrior and nothing comes close to the reliability , economy and versitility of my beloved XR’s.
That article was obviously written by some soft cock, that has and relies on his electric start.
October 11, 2010 at 11:19 am #188828I’ve owned mine from day one and I’ve never used the decompression lever.
Mine also sat for 2 years and started third kickOctober 25, 2010 at 3:22 am #188833What pelican at DA wrote that?
No name on it so journalistic integrity goes out the window.
Short memories of Chad reed on a YZ450 getting his ass whupped by Burner on the XR650R in 2000. Then there was Finke and Baja and Safari.
if Wigan ever printed some trash like that in Transmoto he would receive contributor hate mail from yours truly.

Nick:laugh:  you are so right Nick, the 650 is the easist kick start four stroke I have ever owned and the biggest cc one at that, wonder who wrote it.
Crash has kick started mine bare footed before
Here is a youtube video of someone else doing the same
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP25ESglx8E

October 25, 2010 at 9:58 pm #188810Barefoot??!! You can start them with your hand. I used to do it to customers to freak em out after i put the HRC kit in. 11.5:1 piston no problem. Someone bring a big red pig over and we’ll get a video on youtube. Barefoot..pfft.

Someone bring a big red pig over and we’ll get a video on youtube. Barefoot..pfft.The problem is of course, hot starting. The heat soak gets to the bowl and the fuel starts boiling and running into the inlet port….Still, makes you more determined not to stall them.
