I never got used to the squishy front end of my KLX250 and riding a mates 450EXC was the last straw; the stiffer front felt a lot safer. I bought some RaceTech springs for my weight (70kg – 0.44kg/mm) and put them in last weekend. There’s some pretty confusing info between the web (308ml of fork oil?) and the instruction sheet (“full size dirt bike” as opposed to “four stroke dirt bike”?) but with a little improvisation I got the caps back on with nothing left over.

If anyone’s interested I’ll post the other photos and my (rough as a badger’s a*se) description.
There seems to be about 40mm of light resistance before the valving wakes up but I haven’t noticed it while riding on the tar.
Just a set of MXRetreads to buy and I’m back on the dirt!

Hey Nuro, aint that weird, I had the exact same thought after riding MY mates 450exc.. It feels so much more “SOLID”, interesting your springs on the racetec websites it says for my weight I should use .44 springs but I’m 85kgs and your 70kgs. I think I may have to go a little heavier or lose some kilos. Post some more pics please if u have them. How long did it take to change, anything I should be weary of when doing it.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Just a thought on those fork springs Chris and the weights you talked about I was interested to hear Crash talk on the weekend that the only mod to his forks from standard for the 30 litre fuel tank (Pasha Bulka) was Battye changed the valving/shim stack and crash said it handled great and didnt seem to dip so bad considering it had 30 extra kilos up the front!
Something Nuro said made me think that being “There seems to be about 40mm of light resistance before the valving wakes up”

Wheres he going with this you ask?

Ok when at finke we took some video footage of the Grabham bros pre running and watched the suspension on the bikes just running along the track and they seemed to be using all there suspension travel, not on jumps just normal riding.

When I spoke with the guys after the ride they said the idea was to have a softer spring for better ride that doesnt wear you out and shake the hell out of you and use your shim stack and valving for the big hits

I will find the footage and post it here

Fathead made me change my heavier springs for lighter before the 4 day and changed my shim stacks it was soooooooooooooooooo good!

    Just my 2 cents worth
