Any one ever glued a sole back onto a boot?
Have Fox comp 5 the ones with the moulded soles with no stitches, the toes started coming away slightly then the main sole started lifting at the sides, was thinking contact adhesive might be the go. It hasn’t come all the way off just peeling now both sides.
cheers

January 11, 2010 at 2:22 pm #167992Most contacts will do the job but if you want it done right the best adhesive is a contact but it has an extra setting agent and thats heat,Let me explain, your standard contact goes like this you put it on both surfaces let it completely dry and then give it second coat to get it to have full penetration, when that coat has tacked off but not completely dry you press them together,
The Heat contact is a longer molecule chained glue and needs a slightly different application, first coat as normal contact, second coat will take longer to dry and when it has almost dried, you hit it with a heat gun, mild settings here, this links the chains of both first and second coats, and whilst it is hot you then press together, but now the critical, it needs to be pressed together when hot and held until dry, only then can it be released, you can stuff the boots with heaps of newspaper to make them solid sort of and then you can get creative with a vice and squash it,This thermo glue is a little more expensive than normal contact, and I have found that the cheapest way to get small amounts of it is through your local bike shop or Suttos and ask for the Alpinestars Boot repair contact cement, it comes in a size tube that will do two soles easily, and Alpinestars is the only proper thermo setter, there is another one that you can get and the name alludes me now, but dont get nothing bit the Genuine Alpinestars stuff and all will be good
So there you have it
Oh one last word, the best join will only be achieved if both surfaces are totally clean, scuffing or scowering with abrasive wheels is the go for prepping before glueing
January 11, 2010 at 7:41 pm #167996can i suggest the ramset treatment.
1. place offending boot on foot
2. ensure the fit is correct
3. have a good friend available to assist you.
4.place heal of boot on a chair so the toes are facing upwards.
5. have available good friend fire 8 ramset nails into the sole of the offending boot, being sure to space the nails evenly for maximum holding power.
6. enjoy your days riding with your newly repaired dirtbike boot.
your welcome

January 11, 2010 at 11:01 pm #167976Thanks for the advice fellas,
I think youve “nailed” every option there, bar chucking them out.I have some contact adhesive left over from seat recovering, but i didn’t know about alpinestars specific boot glue, ill either give that a crack or use mine.
There a bit old to take back and i would have chucked the receipt,if i get this year out of them that’ll be enough.I would have give these boots a big wrap until last week they just let go out of the blue, but there fairly cheap so i guess i can’t have it all.
Boony ive got a builder mate with all the ramset gear but hes moved to qld so thats ones out to mate

Dick thinks Boony should attach his helmet the same way.
