Mucking around in the shed yesterday i went to move my bike and I realised I had no front break, I was busy on other stuff and just quickly checked it had fluid and yep its got fluid.
I will change pads, replace fluid, bleed, ect, ect, and all should be good.
But where did it go ? Everything was fine when I parked it, do they just let go ? I haven’t really had any dramas with my breaks before.

    Pete,

I’ve found with Sam’s 250 and my 350 (same brakes) that when the pads wear a bit the fluid gets low.

We’ve pushed the piston back to reverse push the air given a little bleed of the nipple to expell any air in the top of the caliper and good to go.

However I noticed that the level was low so when the bike was at a bad angle (like on it’s side) it may suck it in. The reservoir fluid capacity is smaller than the caliper capacity hence the problem.

I topped mine and Sam’s up and had no problems since however we’ll have to let some fluid out when new pads go on. A good time to replace the fluid anyway.

    Hope it helps.

    Adam.

Yep Adam is spot on. Grab wheel – knee pressure calliper in. Start pumping lever and repeat if necessary. If your anal I mean particular like me, it’s a good idea to do this when you park it in the shed for the week. It won’t go spongy again.

Thanks guys, I will give it a go when I get a chance.
I’ve felt the breaks being spongy before but a few pumps and it’s usually all good, I’ve never lost them completely before.

I had both wheels off my Tenere recently, I put the wheels back on and headed out the driveway only to realise I had no brakes when I got to the road, lucky no cars were coming.

I did something similar as a young bloke with my first car. I had the wheels off for something or other but it was the first time I had done it. When I put the wheels back on I started to back down our very steep driveway and realised I had no brakes. I was only a learner then but luckily I thought to rip the handbrake on.

my new wr front brake is occasionally not there ?????

you only have to pull  it twice and then it is there again …..and don’t think it is fluid level

its happened maybe 3 times now?

What do you think I am a brake Doctor? Dr Axel BD? Paging Dr Brake…. :)

I have seen a front brake work perfectly and every now and then pull to the bars. The problem wasn’t fluid or air. Something wrong with the brake master. Warranty Bob. You may as well put it on the list of faults and get Yamaha to fix them all at once. ;)

The weekend before last on my scout loop for the mystery tour ride one of the guys couldn’t ride his new 300 Gas Gas up one of the rock ledges so he let Darran ride it up for him.

It was a 2 stage rock ledge. Darran rode up the first ledge but didn’t have the momentum to keep going so he back the bike up to edge of the ledge and then, to my amazement preceded to go off the ledge backawrds!! :-O

He busted the shiny FMF muffler of the kiddies bike he was riding, scratched the swingarm and cracked the right hand side radiator shroud. He says the front brake didn’t work when he went to stop. When I pulledd the bike off him the front brake was perfectly fine……

Also check the trueness of your rotors, I had an issue where it was a lucky dip wether I had front brake or not, 1 second it would be O.K then nothing, I bled the crap out of them, cable tied the lever in etc etc, long story short turned out to be a bent rotor, replaced and fine ever since..

i had a simler problem with mine not long ago ,put new pads in, bleed front brake, still no brake rang sutto’s and spoke to shawn and he said to undo brake lever mount off handlebars and hold up higher then pump lever while up in the air a few times as when it is mounted on handlebar it is lower then the highest point of the brake line and this holds a air bubble that is hard to remove
