If it was me I would wait, I tried a Metzeler and the outside knobs chipped quite badly, I dont and its only my opinion like the M5 rears and heard Boulder saying his one with lots of tread left on it was going to be changed as soon as he got home

May 11, 2009 at 10:03 pm #133650I’ve seen the same happen to the Metzeler on the front of a mates bike. I used the MC5 on front and rear years ago on my WR400 and liked them then, but the dealer told me not so long ago that they had changed the copound a bit and they are not as good anymore.
May 11, 2009 at 10:25 pm #133554dont wait too long for that front end grip stm;)

AnonymousBoony, by your own admission you aren’t the most ‘foolly sik’ rider out there and therefore I wouldn’t bother with the S12 front. Mine wore really quickly and lost it’s effective quickly too, although it did offer huge grip to start with. I haven’t tried the M12 front but alot of people seem to run them and like them. It will be my next front tire.
I currently have a Starcross MH3 on and whilst it has good grip the top of each knob has started, or has fallen off and therefore I am less than impressed with the life of the thing.

It is starting to dry up a bit but is still very greasy in spots. I will definately have new tread on for the Bello ride. Weather looks good for the next two weeks so all going well conditions should be perfect.
Now get off the internet and go and clear some more lantana!
May 12, 2009 at 1:29 am #133665I prefer the Dunlop D742FA (if still around) and my next will be a Michelin M12, because it is already hanging up in the shed waiting to be fitted. The dunlop doesn’t last real long, but having said that i do like to throw the bike around a bit.

i agree with tb had a m5 metzeler on the back was okay at first but wor out real fast and fish tailed every where acted like a baldy when it had 75% of it tread left .if you can t get a mitchy just get a bidgstone or dunlop with the right compound for your riding conditions pirrelli scorpion back tyres last well to

It is but thats some of his best work
Hey S/T I would try a starcross, as Moto has used that one of his under all conditions including 60kms of tar on Saturday and you have such soft loamy conditions up there I doubt you will have have the same dramas

May 12, 2009 at 8:04 am #133749So many tyres, so little time!
Solution? Ride more, roost more and convince my significant other that tyres are a safety item and can not be skimped on.
May 12, 2009 at 8:17 am #133750And the winner is
starcross MH3(maybe)
thanks to all that assisted
The end

AnonymousYou can also get get a Starcross MS3 too and they looki good. If I can get one by tomorrow I will have a rear.
How is my other post confusing? I thought it was clear STM? By the way if all you ride is loam then I would just get the S12 and forget the MH3. Or be looking at the MS3 front as well.
Have a look at the Michelin site they have a handly little graph that shows the tyre’s effectiveness (rated 1-5) for each terrain type.
May 13, 2009 at 12:19 am #133913bloody confused now (yeh I know)
Heres the deal
I ride normally red clay/shale. slippery when wet. rock hard when dry.
would like a tyre that holds on during tight cornering and wears well. Probabbly a big ask, I was looking at the mh3 but then realise moto said the knobs fall apart?? or something like that.
michelin is my chosen brand just need to narrow down the type nowall info , be it funny or serious is welcome as I have no idea, remember I bought a fortune rear, and then asked what it was like.
regards
desperate LOL
menace will love that. -
