Friday Follies
• Arriving at BFH Wolfie and I setup camp and collected enough firewood to keep a small village warm in winter.• We geared up and rode off at 4pm for a quick ride.
• We blasted up the BFH Ft and found some ST we hadn’t seen before.
• It was nice and flowing until it went down a nice rocky hill that I noted might cause Wolfie an issue if we had to turn back.• We came upon an awesomeness fern valley with ferns as high as a seated riders shoulders. We stopped to take in the view.
• Pressing on we started to climb up out of the valley. This was a grade 3 section as it had one big rut that you either stayed in it or in a few spots you could get out of it and use a different line. This hug a rock face on our right hand side.
• Wolfie did a top job here as it was a good challenge for him as he needed to pick his lines well, tackle a difficult section like a step or a good sized tree root with some flat parts to catch his breath. His 450 KTM didn’t like the slow going so much. A thermo fan may be in order.
• After one tip over for Wolfie at an awkward off camber section, we rested our bikes and bodies at The Eagles Nest, as KTM_Rules made it known to me.• The hard section over we rode along an overgrown/ newly cut in ST which lead us back down into the next valley. More admiration for the scenery was taken whilst we cruised down to the muddy creek I normally cross over. We took a new ST heading up the ridge line and hung on for the ride.
• Charging up the hill we headed for the ridge line avoiding two massive ruts on the right by taking the newer left hand side. Clearing a tree root step-up, I found a cave to park the 300 and give Wolfie a hand.• Again it was a workout for Wolfie, who had a quick breather while we discussed the lines and techniques needed to clear the step. Gaining more confidence in popping the front up Wolfie got up after a couple of tries. This time it was Wolfies turn to rest at the cave while I rode the next part which was a sharp uphill with angled roots with a switch back to the right then another step up over more roots/rocks. This part up from the creek was a solid grade 3 track.
• After a bit of track maintenance was carried out, Wolfie used the torque of the 450 to climb over the mess with a bit of momentum. With a push he was over the rock steps.
• A nice little loamy section was met with a sharp step up that needed good wheelie control. Wolfie charged up a little too slow on an unknown track, but lifted the front and stopped with the rear not climbing over. Needing a rest, Wolfie handed his steed over to me to clear the step up.
• We found that the trail came out just above the cave with the Eagles Nest track.• We re-rode the new ST till it joined up with a well worn ST that is a glorious piece of trail, with fully sic bermed corners.
• Popping out onto BFH FT, we cruised along to have a breather and joined up with another well run ST that led back to our camp.• We headed down Mary’s Track and down the rock steps to the caves. I showed Wolfie the line up the rock shelf, which is a little off camber with a drop off on the right side which is where the rocks take you. With some more hints, tips and me taking guard at the drop off zone. Wolfie cautiously rode up and over his nemesis. A top job mate.
• Next we came up on THAT HILL in Adam Riemann’s video “Riding the High-KTM 300exc. I had thought about riding it before but never had the guts. But I had to do it as Wolfie had just smashed his nemesis around the corner.
• The Hill or cliff face is all rock with a few rises. The run up is all leaf litter and mulch with a good sized tree with a mighty root that you have to skirt to get the best line. So with a lot of deep breaths I took off with speed and charged at that bugger. No turning back now, I hit the mulch Ok then drove up the rock getting surprised by the loss of speed and the front lifting as I got onto the face of the hill. Thankfully the mighty 300 carried me to the top rather than sending me to the bottom. I let out a victory revs and a laugh. The trip back down was just as scary.• A quick chat with Wolfie telling him that I had it all under control with Wolfie backing me out, I did it again just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. See my video earlier in the thread for the proof.
• We hit the camp and got ready for the nights festivities.Friday Fireworks
• Wolfie sparked up the fire without fuel on it and I hit up the BBQ ready for a good dinner.
• Thrillseeker and Mick25 drove up the FT looking for the camp. As it was dark they saw the fire and Thrillseeker wandered over. I went to met him….with an evil clown mask on. He said he got a bit worried and Mick25 was ready to drive off if needed.• The lads settled in with a beer when another car approached. It was White Rocket who said he needed to get out of Dodge before he went nuts.
• Thrillseeker was telling Rocket his stories of rides with KTM_Rules with Rocket doubting his own ability to handle the grade 4 action the next day.
• So the five Friday campers settled down for the night with some light entertainment which involved moving the chairs away from the fire!To be continued.

The hill where Mick threw his bike up a tree. Nah I was happy resting under a tree.
December 13, 2012 at 5:55 am #233691Twobanger,great job on the video, that trail was brilliant, fast and flowing with some small ruts that could be railed.
I was a bit hard on the rear brake sliding into corners, not much pads left before the ride and heating up quicker. Nothing like some Gatorade to cool things down on the caliper.
