Liquid Intelligence all the way, and as TB said turn your bike off soon as you stop.
Its amazing how many people leave it idling for long periods.
Thermo fan also and wire in through a manual switch up on your bars. Do this because if the Thermo switch brings it on quite a lot when you turn engine off it will drain the battery eventually.
Soon as you get into the tight stuff flick the switch on.Soon as you hit the fire trails turn it off.Cheers Marty
October 11, 2013 at 4:30 am #250482Cheers all,
I bloke on the Gasser forum said he had the same thing on his 450 due to a dodgy radiator cap.
I might just try a new one first as part of the process of elimination.
Any recommendations on which one to get?
Mine is a 1.8 bar.
I’ll try that first before I get into different coolants I think
October 11, 2013 at 9:58 am #250606Replace it with one the same rating to start with. Mine use to do this and all I did was wash and clean it.the coolant can cristalise under the seal. The reason for the overheating still needs to be addressed
October 11, 2013 at 11:12 am #250619Cheers Storky,
Yeah the dealers got an OEM one in the shop, so I’ll try that first.
The one that’s in it looks fine, but how can you tell? Apparently they have been known to fail.
I think you’re right, the real reason for over heating is the issue. After all it’s a brand new unmodified bike.
How’d the ride go on the long weekend?
I was (and am still) keen to come down there and check out strike a light, but just got back from hols in Sydney so went for a local ride which was excellent.
October 12, 2013 at 9:28 am #250483OK,
So I went down to mud n tar today to pick up a new radiator cap, and by chance he had “engine ice” on the shelf.
He told me my cap looked fine but I bought a new one any way just to be sure.
Rod also recommended Liquid Intelligence but didn’t have it in stock.
My problem with that one is that I’m trail riding not racing, and I might need to use a bit of water from my camelbak or a creek to get me home, so I need a coolant that can mix with water.
Long story short, hard hilly, luggy tight and twisty single this arve and it was hot as fk.
Absolutely no dramas, not a single bubble at all. The fan started less than it usually does as well.
So whether it’s the cap or the engine ice (I’m tipping it’s the engine ice) it seems to be sorted.
Hope this helps someone with similar dramas.
October 12, 2013 at 10:29 am #250638Next time you take it out, put the old cap back on and put the new one in your back pack. If it boils put the new one back on. This will let you know weather the cap is faulty Glad to hear it’s sorted.

Glad its sorted, still wouldnt hurt to check the other stuff mentioned either. I reckon a trail rider needs engine ice or Liquid intelligence more than a racer, The racer is always going to be having air flowing over the rads where as the trail rider will probably get stuck a fair bit more often and be taking it easy. thats my two bobs worth.

Solid point that seems even more exiting as I’ve been drinking heavily.
I will put the old cap in (but carry the new cap with me) so as to determine the exact cure.
I really reckon that there was nothing wrong with the old cap, but I will do this and report back.
The one thing I noticed was that while a few people on various forums said that engine ice was bullshit, the people that swore by it were actually using it, which I take as a good sign.
