G’day all, just picked up a 2000 XR650R. Currently pulled down for a partial rebuild, engine is fine. Just needs a little TLC, was off a farm in Victoria. Getting it set-up for a long ride in 2003 from Broome to Cairns.
Hope to do some trail riding around the local (Surf Coast) area between now and then.

February 7, 2012 at 10:11 am #215603Cheers,
I’ve pulled out the rear shock, and called Teknik Suspension for advice and cost for rebuild / revalve and spring. $600 was quoted, does this sound right?
Also, I have notice some frame damage (missed it during purchace inspection) on the inside left hand side (chain damage). Will this pose a problem come RWC time?……. fingers crossed!!!
Oh yeah, my brother just brought a 2001 XR650R in Broome.

February 7, 2012 at 10:19 am #215638Nick (Teknik’s) does mod the seal head in the rear shock that increases the shock stroke awesome rear shock once done. Ring Nick back and tell him you are an old bull and TB sent you, ask for a price with OBT discount
Picture of the frame damage would be helpful

February 7, 2012 at 10:49 am #215641TB, thanks for the heads up mate.
Here is a pick of the frame, I’ll get a close up shot tonight. The damage is on the inside where the chain runs past. Don’t know how I missed it!!!! Should have left my 7yr old at home!!!!

I bought a set of PWRs, they arent cheap for sure but nice well made gear.
Take a close up of the frame, sure it will be OK

There are some slightly cheaper ones in the states, or a set of Fluidynes (spelling) from the states. Crash had fitted PWRs to his before me, the quaility of the PWRs sold me

February 7, 2012 at 5:42 pm #215654Gday Hangerdale, a big welcome to you, especially seeing as though you are a BRP rider!! Thanks for the intro.
I especially like your brother’s bike (same model as mine, a lot less scratches though).Did you get your avatar from the Staintune website? From all accounts that is TB’s Pig, the zoorst pipe is now on my Piggie though. Sounds good too.
Keep us up to date with what goes on with your Pig, between us, we should be able to sort out most issues you might come across.
Cheers
MickFebruary 8, 2012 at 12:54 am #215704Thanks Mick, yeah i pinched the avatar from the Staintune website.
I’ll keep the pics coming as the rebuild continues. I need some welding done on the sub frame and WB Exhaust pipe. I’m hoping to get it done in Geelong.
Just heading down to the shed now to get a close up of the frame damage, fingers crossed it won’t effect a RWC!!!
Cheers,
Hamish
