I am new to this forum, but not to the KLX
I have a 05 KLX250/300 and have used a number of different gear ratios.
I am now settled on 13/46 with a 108 link chain.
This gives me the most options to change ratios without a new chain.
I can run 13, 14 or 15t fronts with this back sprocket. That said, I have found the best ratio for trails on my bike (remember it is a 300) is 13/47.
It will lug slong in third gear at slow speeds on this ratio – my bike has a few mods and very good low down power.October 27, 2008 at 10:28 am #110606October 27, 2008 at 10:35 am #110608Nice work Mekon, I have 3 full gearing sets complete with chains for different riding.
Welcome to the mad house mate, where are you from and where to you ride?
Sorry but how did you find us?
Welcome

October 27, 2008 at 11:38 pm #110610Hey welcome Mekon, what other mods have u done to the bike, all mine are listed somewhere here in the Mods Section.. Where are u from???.
Eagle, I am currently running 14/42 with the 300 kit, the 13t up front was great when it was a 250 gave it a bit more buzz.. I haven’t really felt the need to try any other combos yet.
Cheers

The only thing I feel it lacks is the suspension, I think i’ll end up putting some heavier springs in the front.. I have heard/read rumours that Kawa will be bringing out a KLX250 race bike in the next 1-2 years to compete in the WR/CRF/KTM etc market. O.S. they have the ’09 KLX’s with FI but we won’t see them in AUS until 2010.
Cheers

AnonymousWelcome Mekon
Chris, you’re bike certainly seemed to go alright on Saturday. At least Eagle has some tried and tested ratio’s for the bush when kitted up with 300 set-up
October 28, 2008 at 8:12 am #110365Yeah Welcome aboard Mekon,
And many thanks guys for the input. I was considering a 46 rear sprocket today at work. Reckon I will deiinitely get a 13 as well for the front.
Cheers & GO THE MIGHTY GREEN BEASTSOctober 28, 2008 at 8:26 am #110710Am posting this on the introduction thread as well –
The Mekon has been around a while โ 53 years and long time road rider, but only in the past three years has taken to dirt bike riding.
Currently ride a 05 KLX250 which has been upgraded to 300cc, dynojet + full Staintune system. Around 10kg stripped from the bike and I think she is a pretty good dirt machine, ie at least as good as a DRZ400, and can almost keep up with my mateโs WR450.
I live in Bowral NSW, and ride a lot around the trails off Wombeyan Caves Rd, and also at Belanglo State Forest.
I have just bought a new KLX450R. I am away at work right now, and will take delivery when I get back home in three weeks.
How did I hear of this forum? Someone must have sent a p.m. to every Australian on the thumpertalk forum โ thatโs how I heard.
Look forward to seeing some of you riders down in the Belanglo forest.October 29, 2008 at 12:28 am #110711Hey Mekon,
Would love to know your thoughts on the 450 when you get it. Let us know what you think.
Cheers

AnonymousStill got those itchy feet then Chris. For the record I don’t want you to come crying to me when you have a 450 and realise you were quicker on the 300 :p
November 8, 2008 at 4:57 am #110366Oh Well,
Finally got round to gettin the 13T for the front, think I need a rattler to get the nut of the shaft though  So it will have to wait till I get to that. Stormpatrol has a rattler, so I might be able to make use of that tomorrow  “MUST RING STORMY”
Anyway, while i was out gettin the 13 I splurged on a UniFilter, oil filter, oil, sparky & a spare as well. Cleaned the chain, removed & cleaned guides of sticky black crap:S New chain next fortnight I reckon too before the Xmas Party.
Christ the handbrake is gonna kill me    :SNovember 8, 2008 at 5:53 am #111629Dont tell her, that old thing I have had it in the shed for ever
