You could even use all 5 at once for extra security
Yeah it’s cheap compared to a new GoPro :pinch:
If I rode like you I would use all 5

My helmet gets less dents than my bike though, so it’s still probably safest place
Though you have also seen me cartwheeling through the bush head first, and in fairness, on the penultimate ride I had on the Berg I tried to ride down and off a 1m rock ledge that was too steep and ended up on my head  :pinch:
I’ll have a look into the GoPro’s again and see what they’re worth, it would be good to catch some of my crashes
July 23, 2012 at 9:04 pm #226391Mate i’d love to see in film footage some of the riding incidents you’ve told me about
You could probably make a few bob through Australias Funniest Home Videos as we
Go on get one, I can’t wait

I’ll be “working from home” [Kempsey] on my shiny new iMac starting Sept 1 … can’t friggin wait! :woohoo: Country life, new Husaberg, good shed/workshop …… ahhh the bliss.
July 24, 2012 at 12:10 am #226535Well this is all a bit weird because i have had the same delima.
After much comparing, speaking to and looking at i went with the Go Pro HD Hero2 outdoor edition.
I was leaning towards to Contour mainly because of the tighter fit agaist the helmet but i figured the Go Pro has a bucket load more mounting options and have been informed that the strapon (chest) mount is a very safe position with not much chance of loosing the camera.
The picture and video qualty is apparently a bit better on the go pro and as STM mentioned you see a lot of the Go Pro’s being used on all sorts of events.
The Contour has a blue tooth option on the top line (expensive) ones so you can use your phones screen to check what your shooting which i liked the idea of but again the Go Pro has a optional screen you can buy for the same reason so we’ll see if i need one later.
The Go Pro is Better value i thought $600 plus for the fancy Contour+, $350 for the Go PRo with plenty of extras available as required.
I hope it arrives before the weekend so i can try it out on the stockton beach ride.July 24, 2012 at 12:44 am #226492moto wrote:I had one of the original GoPro’s but never really used it as I couldn’t be arsed with the video editing. However, since I’ve got a shiny new iMac and I’ll be working from home as of Jan I am revisiting the idea.My main concern was ripping the thing off. I reckon the top helmet mount seems to be the goods in terms of framing the scene properly but it is also the easiest to rip off. I know the stciky mounts are strong, I still have one on my helmet because it won’t come off, it’s the plastc attachment to the camera I think would let go.
Anyone lost one of had one rip off? The countour’s are a little more of a slimline design but it’s hard to look past the GoPro.
Mate of mine lost a contour 2 weeks ago we where riding Red Hill. It was on the side of his helmet. We wren’t on the singles for more than 200M when he realise it was missing we could not find it anywhere, snapped the middle bracket the base plate was still stuck to the helmet.
My son uses the go pro on the helmet its copt a lot of knocks and is still in place but he dosent do the tight singles. The go pro gets a bit foggy at times but solved it with a dive kit. We have the 3D housing thats pretty cool as well.
Tip: If you go with a friend with the same don’t forget to swap them so you get footage of yourself.July 24, 2012 at 12:49 am #226555ok pretty much thinking im going a gopro now my next question have any of you bought from overseas (most likely place the US OF A) if so are they formatted for us down here i.e willthey take our sd cards
July 24, 2012 at 1:03 am #226556The US and AUS versions are identical. The Pal or Ntsc conversion is in the settings. The freight charge is around 50 bucks so try a site sponsor like Suttos or Rock Motorcycles first.

July 24, 2012 at 1:12 am #226563been looking stm theres not much diference in the price once you add the shipping , if im getting a few things and only paying one postage its worth overeseas
July 25, 2012 at 3:09 pm #226564I own contours and I’ve never had any issues of loosing camera’s etc. They do have small lanyards for extra protection if the camera does so happen to come off and you can buy for $22 fluorescent skins to not only protect the camera but can be seen easily if lost on the trail. A recent article in a magazine had all the top of the line cameras review, i’ll try and find it and post it up. The only mount the contour doesn’t have is the chest mount, but i do remember the article saying the best mounting option was the 360 helmet mount for contours. Also the contour can be really touchy when filming by hand, instead of a mount. I have found this comparison for you to view.
July 25, 2012 at 3:39 pm #226646The Contour’s white balance seems to be less accurate than the GoPro. STM’s comparitive vid between the two showed this too. Also, isn’t the top of the line COntour much more expensive than the HD Hero2?

Also, isn’t the top of the line COntour much more expensive than the HD Hero2?Yeah it does seem that way. At a quick look there is a massive price difference between the top of the line products. The Go Pro is 3/4 of the Contour price… I have the Contour Roam, its water proof, not expensive and does the job well.
July 25, 2012 at 10:10 pm #226666I work closely with a few production companies and they have done their own testing and they all use GoPro’s.
