November 8, 2009 at 10:55 pm #160055It was a funny sort of day for me as I was having to miss the ride and yet it was raining like 40 bastards, it would be fun, but the wear and tear on the bike, I love riding in the wet, but spending the day cold, big feet up front and rear slides, cleaning all the gear, none of that mattered because I couldn’t ride anyway. But did I really want to be close up with the action, yes was the answer I owed it to eagle to make sure he finished the ride
(On that subject I heard a whisper he gave up and Moto talked him round, didn’t see that inn your ride report beagle
)
I arrived up at my 2nd home about 1pm on Saturday arvo, we unloaded my Fiddy which needed some motard conversation finishing touches for Dan to use to ride with Kylie on her DR
We had a few rums on Saturday night and Sunday morning dawned raining and shitty looking to tell the truth
Moto and Wikdbemmer turned up and everyone got ready
I drove out to the starting point to say hi and ran Ross up to the servo to get some oil for him to limp home as his trusty DR had popped a countershaft seal and was pouring out, 1 down at the start
Once they left I went back to the D’s and got the BBQ and stuff ready watched TV and generally ginned around till Novice turned up right on time. We loaded the remaining gear and set of up to Mt Sugarloaf. Once up there the fog was in and it was so quiet, ah the serenity
Ah the serenity
The serenity of it all
Still more serenity
OBT’s outside cook out location
Winner of OBT’s master chief for November is Novice
Master Chief’s kitchen
Drinks on ice
Then the serenity was shattered as the gorillas came out of the mist, Dan giving two thumbs up and Moto winding up to whine about the cold
Kylie’s back spin was evident
She was a dirty dirty girl
And even though she couldn’t see she was still smiling
And the laughs and stories started
It appeared that eagle must have had a scary moment and may shat himself
AB got out his fuel transfer pump looked the goods but turns out would nave made a better tow rope in the end hey AB (good thing those Katos stay tuned for more)
The camera caught the mist in this photo?? Group shot maybe this is where the thread title got its name
After we packed up we returned to the D’s, unpacked and I had a hot shower, the V8 supercar race was starting and I sat down it was pouring outside how good was this. The phone rings Help Help can you come and pick up AB’s Kato, no spark. Out with the trailer connected and rescued the broken Kato
Bike being loaded
AB getting a ride back with Dan as I wasn’t letting him in the car
I delivered AB’s bike back to the start point and returned to the D’s for the after ride Bundy.
I have to say a great job by everybody, they must have ridden well as there was no injuries in what must have been some of the slipperiest conditions within the amount of clay in the area that they rode
Dan great ride well organised and run from what I saw, Novice the master chief cheers mate you are one of natures gentleman thanks
We raised $105 after expenses for Movember thanks everyone
Thanks for the accommodation Kylie, Dan, Taylah and Emma

Unfortunately I didn’t get everyone coming up this slippery sucker but it’s a good vid regardless.
I’ll eventually get around to putting all of the videos up but if anyone wants the raw files to edit then just shoot me a pm and I’ll see if I can’t get them onto a disk and send them.

AnonymousExcellent report TB.
Thankyou to you Sensei TB, this grasshopper is starting to get the hang of leading rides. It’s not all beer and skittles being at the front, but it is well worth it when everyone gets home in one piece and enjoys the ride.
And you didn’t make your bed you naughty boy, the house maid was very cranky and said she was not going to leave a chocolate on your pillow next weekend
but given one of your wings is clipped at the moment its all good
November 8, 2009 at 11:39 pm #160063Well done Dan on another successful ride. Some great pics and reports guys. I love being in the bush on days like that.

AnonymousWell, as can be seen from the pics and video clip it was a bit wet. I’m well known for my hatred of the wet and rain but fronted for the ride none-the-less. It was a ride I had been looking forward to since me, TB and Dan had done it a while back.
After a 5am start I made it to Dan and Kylie’s place with time to spare. I was going to be wearing a neck brace to test and do review for OBT but it didn’t really fit my neck that well. Just as well really it would have gotten filthy!
WikdBeemer turned up and we were almost there. A short time later we realised that Big T was going to turn up so we left and made our way to the start point where everyone was already ready and waiting. It was impressive given the conditions that we were still at almost full compliment.
After the intro’s had been dispensed with we got going. I started off as sweep. A few short minutes later we were into and in the trails. It became apparent very quickly that the conditions were going to be testing. Fast flowing sections that I have ridden before were extremely slippery and difficult to ride in a straight line!
Everyone adjusted to the conditions very well initially and there many issues. As the ride progressed and delved further into the bush the conditions had diminished and the riding was harder. It was at this point we had a few casualties and a few dirt naps. Everyone was okay though and we continued on.
At this point I was thankful that it hadn’t rained but my thanks were obviously in vain as literally seconds later we got soaked. When your wet your wet, there’s nothing that can be done. Frustratingly I had succumbed the dreaded goggle fog . Even after they were cleaned the rain landing on the lens blurred my vision to the point that I rode without my goggles for the rest of the day.
We arrived at ‘Kylie’s Hill’ and I rode to the top where everyone was parked for the first rest stop of the day. At this point I handed over sweep duties to WikdBeemer.
The rest of the morning’s riding was very much the same, lots of great trails and I was enjoying the challenge the tricky conditions had brought. After navigating endless pool so water strewn across the road we arrived at the Gap Servo for a refuel and rest stop. It was quite nice sitting there because the main road had been closed due to an accident and there we no cars buzzing by as a result.
As we had been moving slower for the morning section we were running behind schedule. This meant that the next section to Mt Sugarloaf was firetrail. By the time we had arrived I was pretty cold, the lack of exertion required to ride this stuff and the wind blowing past at increased speeds made me cold. It was a great relief to get to our little gazebo where Bob and TB had done a sterling effort of cooking the food. I had 3 snag sandwiches in the end
After the refuel we kitted up (don’t you love put wet, sandy gear back on) and left for the next section of fun. After a slight overshoot we found a nice little downhill to ride before heading back to an awesome trail that had heaps of erosion mounds that made great ramps. I haven’t got the hand of properly jumping the new 300 yet so it was good practice. The track ended with a soft and slippery uphill climb to another firetrail. After looking at the next section with Dan we gave it a miss due to the amount of fallen trees across the track and decided to take another track round. This was where we saw all the 4×4’s mashing the track up.
A short time later we were making our way out towards the singles that we had missed for the morning. It was a good track and slippery as all hell only to be made worse by the abundant amount of angled slippery tree roots across it.
I had overtaken a few guys picking my way through the group when I closed in on WikdBeemer, just as I was trying to eye up the place to overtake him he decided to lie down and kiss the worms! It did look like he fell hard, I asked in passing if he was okay and he said ‘yes’. Being a tough old codger I shot on a didn’t bother asking him if he wanted help getting his bike up.
I could now see Dan and decided to catch him up until i pushed too hard, hit a big tree root and nearly threw it all away. Luckily I recovered and got going again. As I rounded a left hander a few corners down the track from my ‘moment’ I saw Dan on his side on a slippery rock step. He sorted himself and we burnt through the slippery trails until we got to a tricky little hill that is easy to do when dry but tricky in the wet.
I saw Dan pull to the side to suss it out, I made a split decision to keep going and just take it on up the angled route (the line I have ridden in the dry). I ran out of steam a couple of meters from the top and had a difficult job of getting my bike down it was so slippery. After catching my breath I went for another go, unfortunately the same thing happened and I heaved my bike back down the hill. It was annoying me that I couldn’t get up and at this point frustration took over and I tried ride a different section of the hill with next to no run up. As expected I didn’t make it, the result was me dragging my bike back down again!
Still annoyed I couldn’t get this hill I lined myself up again at the first line and smashed my way up. Thank god for that……or so I thought! Eagle had made his was up a separate trail round the other side of the hill and after some assistance form myself and Dan over the rocks he was up too. He was pretty tired at this point.
After some deliberation with remaining guys at the bottom of the hill it was apparent her rest of the group had a problem. It was decided that after my efforts we were going to go back down the trail to find the crew. We found AustBlue and his no working KTM pretty quickly and decided to get TB out to pick the bike up.
A short time later and several snaps of the tow rope AB’s sick Kato was loaded and Dan doubled him back to the start point. We said our goodbye’s to all there and headed back to Dan’s place to end what was a fun and challenging day with a VB.
Having changed into some warm clothes and after a bit of a chat about the days events I hopped in the car and made my way back to the Bay.
Big thanks to Dan for leading the ride and to all those who swept for the day. Congratulations to all the finishers, the condition didn’t make it easy.
Also thanks to Novice and TB for BBQ, it was well needed and those snags were very tasty.I’ll look forward to the next one next year

November 9, 2009 at 3:51 am #159948My ride finished at the start, with the comment as I pulled up your leaking oil.
As it turned out, I left a track of oil thru Westy.
Thanks TB for the lift up to the servo, for a litre of oil.
I got home fine, and the oil seal is now out.
Glad you all had a good time.
Thanks Dan for organising the ride, you better do it again soon.Ross

Yeah that was too bad Ross. I will organise another one like it next year sometime.
